Hey scoop guys

I just got a really sweet deal on a Cervini's fiberglass SVO type hood for my Fox. I know, it's just a Foxbody... but I like it a lot... :craz

Anyway, the hood PO had cut the hole for the scoop and now it's open. He had tried to glue some mesh in there with no success...

what are you guys using to block "crap" from getting in your engine compartment?

I don't use anything in mine, granted, it never sees rain and is small. Never noticed any trash when on track or driving on the street.

Currently, I have nothing to block my scoop, but I'm interested to hear what other people have done.

Just in case I got caught in the rain, I was thinking about cutting a piece of foam to block the scoop opening.

I wouldn't suggest foam. That's what Ford used in my 02 mustang hood scoop. It would hold water and drive me nuts trying to get it dry after a wash/rain. No matter what I did...and tried everything from stuffing towels against it to blowing it out with forced air...I would always end up getting a small stream of water traveling down the hood leaving water spots on my freshly waxed hood!

Current car has an open one with no screen or anything. I drive it in all weather with no problems. Foam filter under the scoop with open top.

Previous car had the same small scoop and it was sealed to the air filter. All cold air. In heavy rain, I had no problem but did have a drain tube out the back of the filter case.

I used to have a Boss 429 Scoop and it was open, I only recall getting caught in the rain once and was praying it didn't drown the ignition (it didn't). I never recall getting any trash in there either.

My scoop is open too. Have only had one reported incident of sucking a person into it. But she was old, and slow. So it was her fault. Thank goodness the walker was too big to fit in there. That could have caused problems.

But seriously, I have even drove in pretty hard rain with no problems that I could tell.

Wait. Come to think about it. My engine grenaded the next day. Damn.

Well, the Fox is FI, so I'm not worried about rain or debris in the intake. It's nice and clean after the engine mods last year though and I'd like it to stay that way :)

Park it............

How about a flat piece of aluminum a little bigger than the opening with rubber or Styrofoam as a seal? If you had a aircleaner you could use the aircleaner stud to hold it in place, the FI would make things a little more difficult.
