who has one of the free email accounts such as MSN, Gmail etc.? i'm fixing to dump comcast after 24 yrs & start surfing companies until i get a decent t.v. & net deal. with my work, it would be a nightmare to constantly change email addresses so thinking about picking up a freebie for the work stuff that can be a constant no matter what i change my service to but looking for somethingf thats trouble free with a low spam/advertisement rate if thats possible. looking for recommendations.

I've been using Gmail for years now. Most junk goes straight to the junk folder and I never see it. My Yahoo account has been overrun by crap emails, so I never use it. My Comcast account does nothing but catch junk. I check it maybe once in a few months.

I have Yahoo and it's fine for me. I am not a business owner tho.

I had an account with AT&T that was great until they offloaded upkeep to Yahoo. It became a dumping ground for all kinds of junk-mail, some days I had twenty arrive. I switched to Gmail which has been wonderful.

I have 2, a yahoo and gmail account. I've had the yahoo from the beginning (1994-95) and more recently the gmail. Both are good, but the gmail does a better job at getting rid of spam. Your options and settings are better with gmail too...IMHO.

I too have two email accounts, with one being a Yahoo account. I also agree, it's getting over run with spam. My other account is Hotmail. It does a good job with dumping spam and I've had it since the early 90's.

I have a hotmail account that I got in the late 90's. timothyweller@hotmail.com. Try getting an account anywhere without having to use numbers with your name. MSN went to outlook, so I will give it an OK rating, it does have good filters though.

The use of a gmail e-mail address appears very unprofessional. My turn to agree with Mid. There are lots of way to have an e-mail account for little cost that can work well and not appear as "fly-by-night". Hell, create a simple website and run it through that.

My bro! We're like two peas in a pod, aren't we?;)

You can just register a URL and have email with it and not have a web page. All the registrars that host pages also host email.

I like my gmail account, but do agree about using it for business. I do think that is slowly changing though.

Um, if you were fortunate enough to get google wire fiber optic, you would get a gmail account, so I think the perception will change fast!

thanks guys! ended up setting up a gmail for now. in the past year, i've been phasing out the explorer & doing almost everything with chrome, so seemed like a convenient choice already being on the main page i pull up when going online. i'm not stressing over the gmail/work thing as about 95% of what i do is for established customers that i've worked with for many yrs. the rest comes from word of mouth referrals. in fact, i just completed a job for a customer in alberta, canada based on a referral from a job i did 6-7 yrs ago. i've had numerous offers to set up a website, but have more work most of the time than i can get finished on schedule. sticking with the personal referrals also cuts down on the scams/riff raff.

today's decision will be what television & internet service i want to go with & figuring out how to pipe netflix to the shop from the house. we've decided to just go with a basic tv channel package & do netflix in place of the movie channels. leaning towards at&t uverse at the moment, but still looking...

For the garage Roku works pretty well. Bout a 100 bunch one time for the equipment. Shoot I may even have an extra one.

i have coax cable (rg6 quad shield) run to the garage & also dropped in a phone line that isnt connected on either end, but figured "while i was at it" might as well. wi-fi is really spotty out there from the house. the shop is metal outside, metal inside with about 9" of insulation packed in between. would i have to run another type of cable for that roku converter? hope not, what i have now is underground & i would have to disassemble part of an inside wall to get to where the conduit enters the bldg.

What kind of cable did you use for the phone? If cat 5e or cat 6, you can use that as a network line to you're router/gateway in the house. That is, if the line is close to the router.
