Freaking pot metal crap.....

Just cleaning around the engine today and wiped across what I thought was a grease mark on the chrome dist. hold down clamp. That grease mark has been there since I got the car. As I wiped it off.....I came out with a three piece hold down clamp. Pot metal chrome plated crap......

Looked at three parts houses with no luck. Checked a local Mustang restorer also with no luck. Went to the pick-n-pull....$1 to enter, $1.06 for the hold down and bolt....10 mins. time..... Couldn't believe there was not a new one in any parts houses here. Tons of Chevy ones.

As I told each shop....guess the Fords don't break or you guys would carry more parts.

I have a chrome one that will not stay tight if you want it! I went back to the stock steel pc and have had no problems since.

I just got a free chrome FE distributor hold down clamp from SacBill. Now I am thinking it may not make it out of the package. :scar

Well, that pretty shiny black steel one looks nice against that MSD dist........never a chrome one again....

The actual problem is in the design for it to work. If one looks at the under side, you see that the clamp has a raised area on the end away from the dist. and the dist end sits on a lip of the dist. housing. This allows for a clamping action when the hold down bolt is tightened. I would guess that some over tighten the bolt, crushing the center down since there is nothing to support it. If one only snugs the bolt down enough to prevent the dist from turning, the pot metal crap would hold........maybe.......for a while.......
