Ford Recall ????

I heard a rumor that Ford may be in some of the same trouble Toyota is.
Something about the same manufacture of the gas pedal and They are going to target China first.

Anyone else hear this ?

If you ask me, there was nothing wrong with the mechanical throttle.... Why the :fbomb do we need wire and sensors controlling everything?

Vehicle skid control.

Everything I've read indicates it's not the electronics, but the mechanical portion of the pedal assembly that is sticking.

On both my '07 Explorer and the wife's '04 Cruiser...you can turn the skid control off when you want to.

I think my mom has one of the Toyota's that is on the recall list...it's a newer Camary. My step-dad has one of their trucks but from what I can tell it isn't on the list due to being several years older.

From what I have read, the Ford recall is limited only to vehicles in China.

While I feel terrible for anyone who has lost their life or been injured due to a sticking gas pedal, but cannot understand why they didn't turn the car off, press the brake pedal, or shift to neutral. I will assume panic.

I agree panic and the lack of sensible decision making at the time. And then there's the subconcious consideration that they don't want to hurt the engine/car. dumb yes but.....

Approx. 3 years ago my wife and daughter as passengers were returning from a "big city" shopping trip with a couple of my wife's girlfriends. They took a shortcut through the national forest on an unpaved, but high speed state road. The road is notorious for accidents as sections of it develop the washboard effect. They hit one of these sections and the Ford Expedition started to fishtail at approx. 60 MPH. My wifes GF was driving and panic'd by placing the gear selector in "park" and placing her hands over her face. Oddly enough, this did little to correct the out of control 3 ton vehicle from correcting itself and it rolled a few times after departing the roadway. Fortunately nobody was hurt, but the vehicle was totaled.

People can do some crazy $hit when faced with a situation that it is out of their normal comfort zone.

The particular Lexus involved had a push button start system. I do not know for a fact that the following statement is correct or not.

Logic dictates that the computer would refuse a request from the switch to power off while the vehicle is in motion unless it received a undeniable command.
I surely would not want the car to power down at 70 or 80 mph because I bumped the button.

I am told in order to command the push button start system off while the vehicle is in motion, the button must be held down for at least three seconds.
Something I would not expect Joe Consumer to know particularly since I did not even know after working on Toyotas for 28 years.

You could shift into neutral though, and the rev limiter would keep the engine from coming apart.

Hard to second guess someone in a panic situation.

07 and up Tundras and the newest Sequioas are affected. Tacoma not involved. 07 and up Camrys. If it's made in Japan it has the denso pedal and is not a problem car. American made cars can have either pedal, if it has the denso product it's good.

Yes, unfortunately the bad pedals are sourced in the USA.

That exact info is in the Toyota press release on the website, so I'd think your info is correct.
