FIRE!

I was working on the cowl. I needed to "dry" it so I could paint and seal it. So in my infinite wisdom I decided I could use my propane torch. It was working great until I caugth something in the cowl on fire. Maybe some seam sealer... anyway, by the time I could get it put out I ruined the paint. The cowl is all bubbled.

to make matters worse, I was working on it outside. I had the car cover on it because the trees are raining green stuff. Burnt that too!

yep, made me sick too.
on a positive note I went ahead and finished working on my cowl leaks. She is water tight now. Got the seat pans all done and the interior back in. Tomorrow I will swap in my 70 gas tank.

Bubbled paint
It looks better now that it has cooled off a while but Im sure it will flake off at some point.

I know! I had a pitcher of water for testing the leaks. It was handy. It still didn't put out the fire so I had to run in the house and fill it up again. The second one put it out but I could have burned it to the ground

You don't have the habit of having a fire extinguisher handy whenever you're dealing with fire around a vehicle?

I'll bet you will have that habit from now on.

I do and did have a fire extinguisher handy, I keep one in the car actually. But I did think to grab it!

Tip from practical experience in the shop: When setting up your extinguisher near the job, be sure to look to make sure it's charged. heh...

I do a lot of cutting and welding on hydraulic stuff and hydraulic oil burns pretty good! Haven't had a chance to get the car hot yet. When I welded the exhaust system up, I used the TIG and it worked great, even by the undercoating and gas tank. Guess I need to step up the game.

Gotta admit though, it's a great way to check one's heart rate, eh? Makes you feel alive.
