Electrolytic Rust Removal

+1! I used a large rectangular plastic storage bin for the container. I experimented with a manual trans main case and a water pump housing. The results were great with no degradation of the part, just rust was gone! It DOES take a little patience and you need to make absolutely sure you get WASHING POWDER. It took looking in several stores around here to find it. It's not so much that you HAVE to use Arm & Hammer Super Washing Powder, as using the proper chemical. That particular brand and product has it, which I believe is soda ash.

A few sites I visited said washing soda, others said backing soda, I used baking soda and got the same results. I am doing all the small metal parts under the hood area, Just works great.

Gosh, I wish I had known about this a couple years ago! I found a friend of my brother uses a 55 gallon drum(cut in half) and uses this process with great results! I'll keep this for future reference! thanks!

I'll try to look around and see what the chemical (not product brand/line), is. When I tried the process it was based on a web article. The author mentioned what the chemical was. The article just recommended the A&H stuff because it specifically contained it. If the baking soda works, ahhh, another alternative!
