Door Striker Shims (68)

Noticed at the body shop last weekend that the shims I had ordered and shipped direct to the shop didn't have the wafer thin shims included. I dug in the attic and found 2 copper colored striker shims, but don't know if there was 2 per side or 1 per side.

What is the function of the shims? Are they required, or are they just to set the spacing between the striker and the latch for proper engagement?

How many are typically used/needed?

Tough to say how many is on each side. They shim the striker away from the quarter so the end plate does not smash into the door or latch plates when you close the door.

You keep piling them up til it clears the latch. I think I had 4 on one side and 2 on the other doing the 67 for my buddy. It's possible that you may not need any.

If i remember correctly , i had 2 shims per side.
But it all depends on how wide the gape is between the door and quarter.
The doorlatch should catch the striker smoothly.
