Hey all,
I've finally found this place. I wondered where all the good advice (and bs) went.
I've finally started working on my 65 fastback again this week. I've had all the bodywork done and complete car in primer for a few months now. I wanted to mock up the engine/suspension/steering before going any further. I installed the CPP mini subframe and suspension, Unisteer power rack and pinion, Ididit column, and a 289 (soon to be 347) with JBA headers and 4r70w to make sure everything worked together. I couldn't ask for a better fit. The only modifying I had to do to any of these things was to slightly enlarge the mount holes on the unisteer crossmember and slightly grind near the lower control arm bolts (probably took off no more than 1/8 inch). That probably took an extra 15 minutes, but everything else unisteer sent in the kit fit perfect, even the steering u joints and shafts that hooked to the ididit column. I bought the column from ididit which came with a floor mount and uses the original dash mount bracket. Even the JBA headers fit without coming close to touching anything. I made a tranny mount for the 4r70w and next up is welding in the Tin Man subframe connectors. All in all, it has been a good week.
