Chemical Resistance - 2K Urethane Paint

How does the durability of 2K Urethane Paint compare to Eastwoods 2K Chassis Black when it comes to oil, brake fluid and coolant resistance? I am considering using Summit's Urethane Black Satin paint for my engine compart and floors... I want to do this once and have it durable...

I can't really comment on either's durability but generally speaking, catalyzed paints are supposed to be more durable. That said, I've had good success with the Eastwood "extreme" chassis black which I beleive is just lacquer. I'm not sure that any of the paints will withstand brake fluid... probably just give you a little more of a grace period before it starts lifting the paint.

once cured, the urethane paints i'm using seem to be very tolerant to the typical chemicals like fuels, oils, etc.

The only thing I've seen so far that has damaged a catalyzed paint is the blue dye used when you gasket match and port heads. My buddy that does head porting spilled some on the hood of his 80 Capri drag car that I painted. Nothing, not even wet sanding took that dye off. It's like it went right down to the base color! I ended up repainting the hood for him.

Yes, the paint had cured, it was at least 2 years after I painted it.


I used the Eastwood Chassis Black on my 66. It's held up pretty good for what it cost.

Thanks all... my biggest concern is with brake fluid and gasoline... my Rustoleum painted rear end did not survive my leaky wheel cylinder to line fitting leak I had when first installed, nor the gas that spilled when I drained my gas tank...
