Chasing a miss

I have been chasing a weird miss for some time. Nothing that hurt then performance plus I was not able to pin it down to fuel delivery, spark, of air flow. I have re-jetted, adjusted, and tinkered with every aspect of the engine running. After a bit, I said to heck with it.

Well, during the last week or so I think I found the problem. I had the opportunity to do a complete fill up at a local station that carries gas with no ethanol. Now, I normally did not use this place because it is a bit higher on the price. I also did not really get into the difference in the fuels making a big difference. Well, my miss is gone and has remained gone for three tanks. Also, it seems the car is running a bit richer based on the smell of the exhaust. I will tune the carb over the weekend to see how it does. The car does run real strong also.

Now, the improved running could be one of two things that changed......non ethanol gas or a different brand (Citgo). Either way, it sure is nice to have that miss gone and I am now burning hi-test Citgo gas..

I hate you for even being able to get ethanol-free gas. I'd run it if the entire state of CA didn't require ethanol oxygenated gas.

I did plugs, cap, rotor, jets, carb tune, wires, and different gas prior to ending up in this one station. Either way, I need premium so I will just use this station......

my expererience : there is certainly some difference in quality of gas.Even here in Europe.
The best way to determine which gas is the best , write down how much miles you do with a full fuel tank. The best gas gives the best performance and the best milages.
There is no cheap gas !! Cheap gas declines performance and your fuel comsumption is high per mile.Got it.

Adjusted the mixture and reset the idle a bit this am. No more "rich" smell when I get out of the car now. Now, I will most likely drop down two jet sizes on the front, main jets. That should get it running back in that sweet zone again. All because of crappy gas......

Gotta spread this work out over several days so I keep busy.....lol
