burnt out decision making...

This last year I've had to make too many decisions with renovating the house, building the shop, working on the Alpine, Fastback and the everyday stuff at my business, I'm burnt out! now it's time to decide on Wheels and an Engine for the Fastback, it's a factory GT S-Code with no engine, I found a date coded 390 for large money from a builder in CA or I can build a monster BB for the same amount....

The car will be pretty much stock looking with a really nice Laquer, Dark Moss Green factory color paint, not looking for Bling Bling wheels, I've been looking at (all 17") the 10 spoke shelby style, Coys, Cobras and (maybe to bling) Centerline Sundance series Meteors, and one more, the AR Classic 200s w/ the painted spokes........

Comments PLEASE :cry

I really like the Meteors although I had been looking at Coy's as well. I don't think they are too flashy. I'm probably going to go with a Centerline or other custom wheel so I can get a very specific backspacing to get the wheels set just the way I want. Something to consider.

I can build a monster BB for the same amount....

If we're voting.... that's mine.

Stock is nice, but getting it "factory correct" is going to cost an arm and a leg. Personally, I'd modify it. An engine choice is not a permanent alteration to the car's lineage.

Wheels? There's just to darn many choices! Good luck!

I agree with Dave on the engine. Build yourself something nice put a 5 speed behind it and have a nice driver. You can always keep an eye out for an original engine and do it way down the road if it floats your boat. Wheels if you really want help with that select a few then post a poll and we will vote for you. As far as the color goes you could only pick one better, Dark Moss Green is my second favorite color. fd

building a monster BB is probably the way to go and if a proper dated 390 comes along for the right price down the road throw a blanket over it.

I like the coy wheels, just looking at pictures the rims seem shallow compared to the cobras?

i would steer away from the lacquer when you get ready for paint. you can get a much better looking, longer lasting job with a good urethane base/clear. lacquer is very volatile & requires constant upkeep compared to the newer stuff.

if you decide to go for a monster BB . You should upgrade your suspension and brakes too .
its no sence to go for a monster BB without a suitable suspension and brakes.IMHO.
PAINT : base coat / clear coat . your choise.

I've been having this same argument with Pete my painter for the past two years, he's a close friend and has been a painter by trade for 40 years, he painted my coupe base/clear 8 years ago and it still looks like the day it was painted, he tells me the problems with laquer paint jobs is with the prep and how it's laid down, basically I have a great warranty!

Done! thanks to John.

What did Doug Cope say when you talked to him about the engine?

He had a build date that was boderline, 60 days before production but when he stripped it down, it had freeze cracks in it through the lifter gally and the heads were bulged and the intake is more than likely done to, nice guy, he's looking around for another one.

I would go with a 30 over 460 with a set of the new Kaase aluminum heads (which I have a spare pair of for a SWEET deal) Just make sure to keep the compression down around 12:1, as it really sucks having to carry spare 113 octane in cans in the trunk for a day cruise.
Wheels, I have no idea as I am going through the same quandary right now on the Mach.

Good Luck.

I agree with the 460 but add some of Kasse's new boss nine heads I'm running his SCJ aluminum heads now and would pull teeth for the boss nine set up.

+1 on the 385 series BB! I have a MILD 429 with cast iron D0VE heads and very happy with it. Also if you don't go for the sweet deal on the Kaase heads I would be interested. I'd love Boss heads but that is way over my budget!!!

Wheels, have you considered the "Daisy" American Racing old school look?
