Build sheet

I found this stuck to the under side of my dash last night behind where the gauges go in when I was working on the reinstall of the under dash harness.

Wish more of it was there but I am pretty sure I found pieces of my build sheet. I probably need to figure out some way to preserve these pieces they are pretty worn / brittle for lack of a better description.

Easy to miss. I've had the gauge cluster out several times before and never noticed it there. I think some more of it may still be there just painted...it was getting late last night when I found it but I do plan to look some more this evening.
 
I have litterally had my car completely apart many times and didn't find one. I know sometimes they are under the back seat, mine may have got pitched before I got 20 years ago. Hope you find more of it!
 
i found pieces of inside the passenger door of mine. I never did take a good look at it, ill have to lay it out and take some pics.
 
wow I thought mine was in bad shape, but mine is essentially intact. I can read just about every option (not that there are many). Pretty cool that you found something at least.

Buck tags were typically used at the Metuchen assembly plant. Dearborn used them a little, but not until later, like '68. Basically, a buck tag is a metal tag with numbers stamped in it that was used by assembly line workers to determine what modifications were necessary to the unibody. Mainly, where to drill holes or use different sections of sheet metal. It can be a big help in trying to authenticate 65-66 cars, such as GT's, as the option code was stamped into the buck tag (required dual exhaust reinforcements in the unibody, holes for fog light wiring and prop valve attaching hole.)

Since the buck tag was one of the first things to be attached, the tag and the screw are always painted black when the engine bay was painted.
 
I looked last night and couldn't find any more build sheet but it's kind of cool to have at least a little of it. The rest probably weathered away over the years. I do have the original owner's manual and that is kind of fun to look through sometimes. I don't even keep the manual in the car and leave it in a safe spot inside the house.

Haven't seen a buck tag in mine and since we just recently sanded down and painted the engine bay I don't imagine there is one there to be found. When I was buying the car, I made sure it had the data plates on both the fender apron and on the door and made sure that they matched and that was good enough for me. If I get the car painted sometime in the next six months to a year I'll have to make sure the door plate is preserved.
