As my mustang nears the finishline think I may have found the next project

I Don't Care. Do you?

Stumbled across a possible next project. Always liked the early Ford pick-ups and this one caught my attention. Figure I might grab it and store it away for a bit until I could get to it. What do you guys think? It's a one owner...yep original owner...flathead 8, three speed still runs and drives. Haven't seen it yet in person but the pics look good. Doesn't seem to have much if any real rot issues.

I dig it. I'm a big fan of the 53-6 fat fenders. I want one so bad I can't stay it.

I say Go For It! When looking for a old pickup for my wife, I missed a 46 due to being slow on the draw.

Come on guys, you're being a little nice to the rodent.

My advice, FINISH THE DAMN MUSTANG BUTTHEAD!

On third thought, if this truck takes as long as the Mustang, I won't have to worry about being around for the final unveiling.

when I was 11-ish, I had an Uncle that had an F1 with a small block Chevy engine. One holiday we were visiting and he said he was going to sell it. I worked my butt off to get the asking price money and pleaded to my parents to let me buy it. My dad being soft for the truck too finally agreed and we made the deal... or so I thought. The truck was in Nashville and we lived in Chicago. During the summer after that holiday my dad and I drove down to get it, prepared to rent a tow dolly and bring it back. When we got there, my uncle had sold it! I was beyond mad, my dad was visibly upset. We left and never spoke of it again but I still have a desire to get one.

I have had my eye out for a 56 big window for several years. Not that I really need another project, but damn I love the looks of a nicely done fat fendered truck. There is so much that can be done with them. Go for it!

I'm at an airport now. I will be back home late this week. I've sent word to the seller I want to come by and take a look. Hopefully it's still there. The more I think about it the more anxious I become. Even the wife likes the idea. that rarely happens!

fingers crossed...hopefully you are not struck with a case of the kb3 luck and it sells before you get home! Let us know, just don't tell Mark where it is, he may screw the deal for you!

Looks like this is not to be. Seller is stuck on a price beyond it's value. We've all encountered this before, I'm sure. Given the amount of metal work necessary and the rarity/cost of replacement parts the dollars make no sense. Too bad. I really like the truck.

That is too bad. It seems like everyone over prices their project vehicles any more. I blame it on the TV, all these reality shows, auctions, etc make them believe they are sitting on gold. Hopefully you left your contact info, many times they will come to their senses and meet you at a reasonable price.

Leave your phone number, Terry. He may change his mind whe nhe needs some dough and cant sell it for what he thinks its worth. You never know.

Yep. Gave him my business card. I figure at some point he will decide he has to let it go. He is married and it takes up a bay in the family two car garage. Have to figure that doesn't sit well with the Mrs especially when winter rolls around. It was just a "happened to see it" deal so no rush or need on my end. Maybe it will come around.

+1 Terry. Even though you left your card, you may want to drop by occasionally. I'm not saying so often that you become a nuisance, but just as a "reminder". Hell, don't even mention the car on some visits.

A friend of mine once found a '68 fastback that was on blocks, primer black and had the eng/trans pulled (both on the ground nearby), and sitting in front of a mobile home in the country. He knocked on the door and asked if the guy would sell the car to which he got a resounding "NO". He'd occasionally stop by every few months. On one visit the guy finally relented and said he'd sell the engine and trans but not the car. He settled for $500. After almost a year a visit finally paid off when the guy said he'd sell due to a pending divorce. He took $1500 for the fastback body. Due to persistence my friend got the car.

BTW, while $1500 for a fastback was a really good deal, here's the "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say....the engine wasn't the original for the car, it was a complete 427 tunnel port along with a race prep'd C6. The car? Turns out it was one of the 50 factory "135" 428CJ drag cars. I personally saw the engine and the car (both of which he later sold). He also located the 2nd owner of the car who provided period photos from '68 in race trim when he used to drag race it and frequently accompanied his friend and fellow racer, Hubert Platt. Persistence pays!!

This is how I ended up with my fb. It wasn't for sale at first and I'd stop in occasionally. Finally they called because the son was getting remarried and needed money. I was offered my car and a 67 Fairlane 2d with a 289 for 3k. I ended up buying mine for 1500 and was offered the Fairlane for 500. I kick myself for not getting the Fairlane. But at the time garage was full with a 67 swb Chevy.

What is a fair going rate for a 'project' old ford these days?
I need another project like I need a hole in the head, but I see them on craigslist, most are incomplete or missing parts, which to me isn't an issue because I'd go with newer drivetrain and upgraded interior anyhow.

When do you draw the line?
I'm a hoarder, so I don't really have limitations on total body damage or missing parts/title, I figure I can always file for paperwork, or find parts later.

Some of these don't have prices but some of them are prices I'd be willing to pay if I weren't already neck deep in other projects..

Not a big window, but still a '56

I already have 2 1954 F100's, both originally had 239/3OTT short beds, one had its 239 swapped out for a 223, and the other is missing its box.
