Are the 69/70 steering wheel shaft splines the same size as earlier cars?

I bought a quick release hub for my moto-lita wheel and the adapter spline that should slide over the shaft's splines doesn't. But it's close, and with a little warmth and determination, it might.
Figured I'd ask here before thinking some more...

As far as I know the splined area is the same. Hopefully others will chime in to confirm.

Well, the calipers just confirmed that the shaft is .684 and the ID of adapter for the quick release is smaller at .677

I know for example that the 69/70 column tube is wider than earlier cars, they are 4.1" and the earlier ones are about 3.5, but that's not the spline measurement we're talking about here.

I'm using a '67 wheel on my '69 w/o a problem, except the overall width issue difference, as you know.
