Aftermarket 14" Rims over Granada Brakes

Can anybody verify what Aftermarket 14" Rims fit over Granada Brakes? I am considering Big and Littles and want to run either 195/70-14 or 205/70-14 on the front... Thanks...

You have to run a 1/8th spacer for 14 rims on Granada brakes. I tried to find rims to worked but ended using a small spacer to make it work. I used to have cragar rims.

Granada's came with 14" wheels. I ran 14x6" Crager's on the front of my 67 for years with no spacers or problems. I still have a stock 14" Granada wheel for a spare.

You might want to check into the availability of 14" tires before you make a final decision.

Good point, I was gonna use 14"s until looking for tires, that changed my mind. OT, are you racing with a Granada setup?

I don't plan on racing the car other than maybe a trip down the drag strip... my plan was to run either 195/70-14 or 205/70-14 tires up front with 235/60-15 in back... I believe BFG Radial TA's are still made in these sizes...

Believe it or not, the orange car runs 1:53's around Laguna with Granada brakes. We run the Porterfield R4 brake pads and I have air going to them. The rotors last a full season and I never run out of brakes.

Opentracker,

Do you still have standard drums in back?? Do you run Porterfield shoes in the rear??

In addition just for verification... are you running Original Ford Spindles, not the CSRP spindles with corrected Geometry??

It's funny, but I'd always get hammered by people when they found out I was running a Granada setup. Really didn't have any troubles with them. I think the only improvement was I used a steel brake lines.

The car has the Versilles disc brakes in the rear with the Porterfield pads. The spindles on this car are Ford and we don't have any bump steer issues with it. Some people do, we don't. To be honest, the car doesn't see a lot of track time anymore. We have another track car. My boy JD wants this car to drive to school when he's old enough and I don't want to wad it up.

On the rear drum brake cars, we do run the Porterfield shoes on them. IMO, Porterfield makes the best racing brake pads/shoes on the market.

John,
I have the same Granada/Versailles combo on my 67. It's almost exclusively driven on the street but it is driven a lot. I do occasionally abuse it a little on the Power Tour and any Goodguys events that have a course. Would you recommend the Potertfield pads for mostly street use? I have whatever NAPA sells on it now and they seam okay.

The NAPA pads you have are what I use on the Mule ( 64 Sprint ) and my wife's 61 Ranchero, both have Granada disc brakes.

From a safety standpoint, IMO, what you don't want to do is run racing brake pads on the street. Street pads are made to run cold, racing pads are made to run hot. Same with the tires, street tires are made to run cold. IMO, there is no such thing as a street/track tire or brake pad. Sometimes the guys that get in trouble on the track are not using dedicated track pieces and they run out of grip or brakes - or both.

I think the reason I get away with running the Granada brakes on the track is the air ducting I have to them. Both headlight buckets have been turned into air scoops for the front brakes. It has 4" tubing going to the rotors. The headlights go back in for the street.

We run 16X8 on the track with Hoosier radial 225-50 up front and a 245-45 out back. I do keep the Porterfield pads on for street driving but it doesn't stop very well. I keep that in mind every time I drive it.

The 14's are 225-60 up front and 245-60 out back.

Are you running Semi-Metallic or Organic Pads on the street??? I have noticed that Raybestos offers a semi-metallic pad for the front, listed for Taxi Service, but I cannot locate anybody which offers Semi-Metallic Shoes for a 10"x 1 3/4" Drums... is Organic OK for the rear???

1:53 is a nice time at Laguna. What a sweet track. I was running 1:55 on my R1 the second day I was there. It would be sweet to take a car there.

It's been a long time since I bought any. I don't go through brakes often with the amount of cars I drive. I believe below is what I got from NAPA. I always ask for Bendix or the NAPA brand and the front were the semi metal and the back were the premium. I know the guys at the NAPA store I shop at ( went to school with a couple ) and they know I want the good stuff. Hope this helps. I'm getting old and my memory isn't what it used to be.
