Hell Bent for Speed
Did a shart ton of work today to the fastback. Finally replaced the old leaking power steering pump with a brand spanking new one (changing pulleys always sucks). Purged the lines of the old fluid and replaced with all new. Did an oil change. Also yanked out the fan and changed the water pump pulley to a billet aluminum one. It's about 2" smaller in diameter - which rquired a new belt as well since I was out of adjustment on the power steering pump. The pump spins faster now with the smaller diameter pulley - seemed to stay a constant 182 degree this time where before it was above 190.
I ALSO installed that 3/8" phenolic spacer. Two words: IT WORKS. No more flooding after turning the engine off. I can actually reach in THROUGH the window, bump the key and it fires right up after it's been drivin for a while. Sweet. No more boiling over gas!
I did have to shave down the mounting base of the street scoop to compenstate for the additional 3/8" spacer. It's CLOSE. But everything clears...
All in all - a great day!
