1965 window run replacement

Thinking of replacing the window runs. Those are the long window guides at the rear of the wing assemblies. Guide the main window. Near as I can tell no one sells replacement material for inside the channels. Just the channel with new "felt" installed.

My question is how does one know they need or will benefit with new ones? My glass has a good amount of play inside the channel so I am thinking the material has been worn away over the years. When I shut the door the glass kind of "rattles" around a bit no matter how I adjust the angle of the wing/guide.

Insight anyone?

Terry, have you tried to adjust the rear guide to put a little pressure on the rear part of the window. That might keep it from rattling.

I can take another look at it. When the window is up though there is not much there to work with. That channel up front has like 1/8" worth of slop. Pretty sure that is the bulk of my issue.

Nope. Those are both seal items for the wing. I actually have those on the shelf ready to go on. The stuff I was searching for is in the long channel that runs down deep into the door. At this point I'm pretty sure it is not sold alone. I will pull my door apart here pretty soon and get a look at what is used in that channel. At that point I will either come up with something that can be used or just buy a set of the replacement channels.

I should have just rebuilt the damn wings when I had everything out long ago but they looked pretty good and figured I could wait until I got the frames re-chromed some day in the future. It is pretty much the only damn thing I didn't re-do or buy new on the whole car! Lesson learned.

IIRC there is a "cushion" that pushes to the side of the window on the rear run channel.
Correct me if i am wrong.
