My attempt at Opentracker style UCA's

My attempt at opentracker style UCA’s, John gave me the info on the bearings he uses (thanks), which pretty much drives the rest of the parts… Hopefully I didn’t miss any major design features…

Started with a stock repro arm, the both shafts were completely bound up, I think they were a bit too long and were bottomed out:

Tacked in a washer to act has a pilot:

Drill press with a bi-metal hole saw, never really used a hole saw on metal before, they cut very well provided the work is well supported:

To the lathe for the bearing sleeves, made some extra for a set of perches:

Seemed to have turned out pretty well, tight, turn very smooth, no binding.
Fun project… As usual, all comment are welcome, rather hear it now than die in a firey crash…

Makes me want to spend money, that I don't have, on cool new toys...err...Tools.

I used cold drawn 12L-14, for the machiniability, has a 60000psi yield, same a annealed 4140. Heat treated 4140 can go 90-100000psi... Hopefully it will be OK, has to be more than the crap they sent with the repro arms, plus there is much more material on my shafts than on teh stock... keep your fingers crossed...
 
That material should be fine. Shear in the bolts that connect the arms to the shock tower will fail before the metal in those shafts will
