I replaced both quarters and roof skin, so I didn't have to worry about peeling the roof back. I've seen pics that don't make it look too difficult... probably the bigger pain is cleaning all the lead off in order to weld it all back together.

In that case I would start by drilling out just the roof spot welds first, then gently peel the roof up a little (it's only 0.030 thick). if needed, it wouldn't hurt if you needed to slice a few small relief cuts in the recessed area. You can always weld them back up during re assembly. It's also a good idea to seam weld the joint before filling the cavity. Actually I like how rusty welds a patch in the cavity instead of using filler.
