17x8 and 17x9 67 fastback

Well I’m back. Long story getting ready to pull the trigger on wheels and want to double check with you guys again.

67fb will be reverse eye and 1-2 inch drop in front.

1-Anyway two question. Will these wheels fit and have the correct BS.
Wheels:Vn407

Front 17x8 4.75 bs
Rear 17x9 5.25

2-will these tires work/fit (. Looking for a modern look but also workable as a daily)

Front 235/45/17
Rear 255/45/17

Does anyone see any issues with this set up?

I have TTII with 245/45/17 all around and nearly fit up front. Don't know BS anymore.
 
Google dodgestang wheel chart. It use to be the definitive list of wheels and backspacing or offsets.

I run
Front 235/45/17
Rear 245/45/17

with 4.5" back space. IMHO, 245 is the widest you want to go on the rear, without some surgery to the wheelhouse.
 
Sorry, forgot that. No rims are 8". Be careful how low you go with ride height. Mine bottom out on speed bumps.

If you're near a tyre shop ask them if they could mock one up for you to test fit.

If I would do it again , i would go 17x7 up front with 235 and 17x8 rear with 245 or even one step wider.
For a classy still performance set up , I would go with 16 like CMAYA did with his 68 fastback.

Agreed I think Craig, CMAYNA went with the same wheels as me. The 16x8” Vintage 45s. I did stagger the tires with taller tires in the back.

To bad he hasn't it anymore. It was an awesome car seeing his built. He probably got mucho $$$$$ for it.

Agreed. It was a beautiful car in person. Just all the details he took into account when building it. Hope to emulate just a smidge of that attention in my build.

He helped me a ton over the years and we did a lot of the same things to our cars same painter, many of the same parts and details.
 
So I’m going for a modern look.
I think the fronts 17x8 with 235x45x17 is a decent low profile.

But I’m still stumped on the rear with 17x9:

To match the front should I go with 245x45x17??

Again I’m looking for a modern low profile look that is very usable

I've seen enough variance in wheel clearance with the 65s I've owned that I would take the time to mock up and measure for clearance before spending a bunch of cash purchasing, shipping costs, mounting etc. If you don't want to invest in an actual tool to do so you can make your own or even bolt on an existing wheel you have and calculate off it to what you plan to install. There are so many little variables involved here. Different brake set-ups, for example, can push a wheel in or out over stock. A replacement fender/quarter may not have the same curvature or such. Just because something works on one car doesn't mean it will be exactly the same on another when it comes to these old cars. Mock up and measure is the best path to success, IMHO.
 
To throw more confusion into the mix, the same tire size from different manufacturers CAN be different heights/diameter.
 
B.S. of the rear rims determines how wide you can go without rubbing inner wheelwell or outer body panel. When choose right you can have max width of rim/tire combo. But in front you have to take into consideration that the center line of the rim width still is very near to the center line of the upper and lower balljoint . Otherwise you can feel pulling the car left or right when driving in a putthole. On a 67 mustang front , I would go with 235 on a 17x7. With 245 on a 17x8 it rubs the fender or you have to roll the fenders .
But you have to do the math regardless.

Thats Craig's 68 fastback. Love that stance and tire/rim combo
