Re: 68 Coupe Daily Driver - Updated 02/13/2012

Finished my trunk Battery Relo Project Saturday.

O gauge wire to relay. Need a new engine ground cable.

Next project is to add a panel where the glove box is for fuse panels. 1 for before switch and one after. I think of also moving the starter relay to this spot.

Added a cougar style driver side AC vent since I am going to use the aftermarket electronic controls Just need to find some brushed aluminum to create a panel for it.

It's easy enough to just find some 0.030" thick plain aluminum and brush it yourself with some fine grit sand paper on a foamlike block. I think something in the 400 grit range will work fine... youl have to experiment with different grits to get the right match. Just be sure to brush it before you form it.

Here are the pictures of the new tie rod sleeves I installed last weekend. They sure look nice. I like that they are hex which allows better tool fit for adjustments.

While I was replacing the tie rod sleeves, I noticed the UCA ball joint dust cap is all ripped. Can you get replacements, or do you need to get new ball joints. The whole UCA is only 6 years old.

The next thing to do is build the Boxed LCAs from the kit I got from Opentracker and so the Shelby drop on the UCAs.

Re: 68 Coupe Daily Driver - Updated 08/14/2012

You'll need to replace the entire ball joint as the covers are not available separately. Now if you want to spend a bit more money, you can replace the entire UCA.

I'm going to predict there will be yet another injury in removing the ball joint from the spindle... :sarc

Re: 68 Coupe Daily Driver - Updated 08/14/2012

Energy Suspension make polyurethane replacement boots... but I don't know if they are available for the upper ball joints.

Re: 68 Coupe Daily Driver - Updated 09/24/2012

Replaced the valve covers today. the old ones had gotten pitted when my radiator let go last summer and they need to be polished out. I also did not like the oil cap on the passenger side. I also started to reroute the spark plug wires but I ran out of spark plug wire to create some longer sections. I only got 3 done on the driver side.

Installed a set of Quik-Latch Hood Locks. These are Rob's new prototypes with return springs.

Those locks look nice. Do you just push 'em in to unlock?

Robert
Correct, I need to unlatch the hood first to put tome tension on the locks, then just push the buttons. These are rated by the NHRA to withstand the forces of drag racing so I could remove the old hood latch, but I probably will not.

yep, a little long, but most are not critical.

I'd say the steering wheel one is pretty critical.

Larry, I need to clean my monitor now. :wor

Re: 68 Coupe Daily Driver - Getting Ready for the HRPT - Todo List

Started trying to figure out all my electrical issues.

* Temperature gauge does not work
* emergency flashers do not work
* rear window defogger does not work
* Keep blowing interior light fuses
* windshield wipers sometimes work
* Front turn signals both flash instead of just one side or the other.

I might just get a new harness like Painless not not one from painless.

I got the steering wheel off and the gauge cluster out this morning before I had to get to work (for my paying job).

Re: 68 Coupe Daily Driver - Getting Ready for the HRPT - Todo List

Order that harness yet? Tell us about the quality when you get it.
