Bullet Mirrors

Horseplay

I Don't Care. Do you?

Have to make a decision on side mirror(s). I left the original holes in my drivers door so I have 4.25" spacing to use. Would like to go with bullets but the location of the holes seems that the mirror will limit (almost negate) the use of the wing window. I've read of such clearance issues but haven't found detailed info or better close up pictures to show what it looks like. I can't find dimensional specs on the mirror itself either.
Anyone here have such on their 65/66? Can you provide some help? Measurements, pics, etc.?

Terry,

We installed a bullet mirror on the driver's side, have yet to add the passenger side. While we didn't have the original hole situation to deal with, where we mounted it does effect the wind wing use. I didn't figure that would be much of a loss considering the car is supposed to have AC someday when I get around to finishing it. I can have the better half grab some pictures and measurements later today and get them to you.

Thanks, Ken. No need to hurry. Not going to make any decision in the next few days. If you could give me the distance from the front edge of the door to the first screw hole that would tell me how the mirror location on yours would compare to mine. That way any pics and measurements of the mirror in relation to the rest would be beneficial.
I am not putting air in my car so I want some function from my wing. I'm thinking I may have to use the stock mirror. :(

Not that it would make much difference in your decision but I think that the mounting location is slightly different right versus left. (mine is anyways)

I had read that elsewhere too. I figure based on seating position of the driver it may very well have to be moved fore or aft to give the correct viewing angle(s). There is also the issue of mirror glass. Seems oem correct is flat and modern (better) version is convex for wider angle view.

The difference in mounting positions is the main reason I never mounted the passenger side mirror. I like symmetry!

as for the convex, I would look for a flat passenger mirror, convex mirrors are worthless in my opinion!

All I'm gonna say is that the Raydots are useless! They look good, but suck for seeing anything around you.

You are making the assumption that Terry's car will actually be on the road someday!

Terry - I am away from the house for the next couple of days, but the wife is taking some pictures of the car....no telling if it will be the mirror or the tires!

The difference is so slight that you wouldn't even know unless someone told you.

Are Kalifornicators talking about mirrors or sheep?

This issue is one Im going to be dealing with very soon. I filled in and painted the original mirror holes in anticipation of attaching a bullet mirror.

I haven't forgot about this, I will be back home tonight so I will go snap the pictures and take the measurements.

I have them. You guys sure overworry about this sort of stuff. Just put them on the car where they make the best sense and function. That's what I did.

You're missing the point. My door has existing holes. No choice on where to mount the mirror. I am asking for info to determine if I were to go with bullets would they interfere with my wing when mounted where it would have to go. If I was drilling be a different deal.
But yes, I do tend to obsess over details.

ok...better late than never. Below are three pictures showing the location of mirror. The one shot has a tape measure showing the location from the front corner of the door to the first hole. It measures closer to 10-1/4" to the front screw. Let me know if you want to see other angles or measurements.
