*UPDATE* Very, VERY bad day at work

It didn't start off bad...just a typical day of driving the fastback to work. I'm just sitting at my desk eating my lunch, when one of my co-workers comes in my office and says "Someone just hit your mustang in the parking lot." I'm thinking, he's pulling my leg...he's a big practical joker. Just then another co-worker tells me I better go out to the parking lot. Now I know that something bad has happened.

I head out to the parking lot and there's a F-250 parked near my fastback. Crap. I get closer and see the rear end. Crap. My tail light is busted, the bumper is fubar'd, and I see twisted metal. Crap. After getting all the guy's information, and calling insurance, I head back out to assess the damage. The quarter panel is wrinkled, and the trunk won't open. But at least the driver's door seems to be unaffected and I still have a brake light!! I learned later that the guy was very unhappy when he came to the office and left in the same mood. He shot out of the parking spot and knew when to stop when he hit my car. Here's the pics:

Rob: That totally sucks. I remember Johnpro had a similar experience with his '66 at work except the co-worker's truck was a Dodge IIRC. Hopefully the insurance won't be an issue for you. Maybe a little blue paintball target practice would be in order on that F250 !!!

Regards, Jeff'

Also remember when JohnPro himself backed his 69 into a SUV at a Tahoe Motel..:D:eek:

A good body shop should be able to handle your problem. What INsurance do yuo have?

I drive my Mustang everywhere and that is the thing I fear most.
I hope the other guys insurance Takes care of it right.

Its hard to tell from the pics but seems to be older paint on your car. That's going to be the real issue in my opinion. Matching it up will be tough. Maybe the silver lining is this will end up in a whole new respray!

That sucks, at least it wasn't a hit & run. Maybe it will result in enough for the repairs & a complete paint job. Good luck.

If that was my car the guy would have driven away. I have had about 10 instances where someone hit my car and left. Only once did they leave a note. I hope it isn't too difficult to repair.

Ya. This really sucks. From what I gather the guy came to the office pissed off because of some violations on his property...ie his property was part of a huge Marijuana eradication. Over a 1000 plants were pulled. And he left angry...

Well if there's a silver lining this might be the incentive to get the car out of its redneck stage and get it painted. Now the problem is deciding on what color to paint it. Not gonna repaint it root beer brown.

Emberglo! That and deluxe Emberglo/Parchment interior. I drool every time I see that combination.

Thanks for the idea Frank. My biggest challenge is finding a color that will match my interior. A PO covered every inch of bare surface on the interior with a saddle tan vinyl. And I'm sure it was done in the 70's with an adhesive that won't come off. Even went as far as doing the seat, headliner and covering the windlace with that material.

Let me put my insurance hat on for a second.....

"Totaled, here I'll give you 4k...ohh you want to keep the car....then I need 2.5k back"

I just hope that I don't really see deformation in the upper sail panel between the vents and the back glass.

I think you are just seeing a weird reflection in that area. The damage looks to be limited to below the top of the quarter. It must have been pretty hard smack though.

Ya, that's really what I'm afraid of. haven't looked too closely at that area. It's difficult to go out to the shop and see my baby in that condition!

Talked with the owner of the body shop, and I'm taking off work early to take it in. I'll know more after he takes a closet look.

**UPDATE**

After about 3 weeks, I finally hear back from the other guy's insurance. It took all that time to get a hold of the owner of the truck (not the driver). And I got some good news...they accepted the estimate from my bodyshop without argument and they should have cut a check either friday or today.

The estimated damage was $6100. The owner of the bodyshop said that they are going to try and straighten and save all the original metal that they can. If they can't get it back into shape, then they'll replace what is needed.

On a bright note: Since the car is at the bodyshop and half stripped down, I'm going to finally bite the bullet and get the car painted. Now I just have to make a final decision on what color to paint her....
