Boom's 68 fastback

I agree. I really like the Holley lights. Just wish the lenses were glass.

The Dapper ones do look odd, I definitely didn't want the halo options they offer.

I just noticed that the TKX seems to have gone up in price. Swear it was 100 cheaper, the Ford Perdormance models still are. Might order one before they go up too. The price bump made me look at the T56 for a bit, only $500 more. That'd mean a whole lot more with a bellhousing and potential floor mods though.

Have you seen the price of, well...anything lately? A bump of a hundred bucks on something that was about $3k seems minimal. I posted the other day about MIG gas. I found a receipt from a couple months prior and confirmed the price went up over 10%. I'd pay the extra $100 on the TKX and be happy at this point!

I know everything's always going up. It's crazy but what can you do. I plan on getting one of the two TKX options the have, both Ford Performance models. Just need to decide on a final gear, either .68 or .81

I found that MTF finally has a decklid for my car in stock. When I added it to my cart I almost fell out of the chair. The decklid alone is $850, I could've swore it was substantially less not too long ago. Plus I'd still need the end caps for another 500.

A 10% increase should be normal but a 50% increase is taking advantage of the inflation to make a bigger profit. But then again , the market will regulate itself. They will sell less in the long run.

Yeah, almost makes me want to chance one of the other decklid options.

I have plenty to keep me occupied with sorting the driveline out first. I am still in the fence with the TKX on the .6 or the .8 overdrive. I keep going back and forth. I really think the .8 is going to be more fun. I don't see myself doing many long highway stretches at speed where I could use the .6 and keep the engine at a decent rpm.

Be realistic with yourself about how the car will really be used/driven. Playing around on the street you will never be using 5th gear aggressively. I'm shutting it down midway in third even on long open stretches as the speed comes on quick. You car would have to be woefully underpowered and/or geared crazily to even use fifth in a quarter mile romp at the strip. I use my fifth overdrive gear ALL THE TIME. Just out for a nice long summer drive visiting other locales or maybe heading to a car show a few towns away I constantly find myself on two lane highways or even some of the bigger interstates. That gear allows me to flow with traffic (or leave it behind) and my little stroker just spins along at a safe and happy rpm.

That .8 gear is for track cars nothing on the street unless "street" to you is racing Supras from a roll at 80 mph! Build a car you will use and enjoy.

That makes sense too. I think you're right. My old T5 behind a lil 302 I had in my coupe used to lug in 5th sonetim3s. That's what had me nervous.

With the gearing chosen, does it make a difference which brand I get? I.e. Ford performance, Tremec, McLeod? I wouldn't think so, but maybe I'm overlooking something.

I'd go with the TCET17765. It has a 2.87 first and a .68 fifth. 2nd and 3rd are basically what the T5 in the late 80's/90 Mustang GT used. The difference is the first 2.89 vs 3.35. That T5 winds out 1st way too fast. I run a .380 gear out back and first is pretty much over before you go anywhere. Be nice to wind it up and build momentum with the 2.87 which would lead to better acceleration time. Unless you want to wind it out to 7 grand go with the 2.87 gearing.

Getting ready to order a bunch of parts for the TKX swap. I'm getting ready to get back stateside here in a bit.

I'm looking at a centerforce clutch kit, KDF113014. I know there is an option for just the pressure plate and disc, but the kits only $30 more and had the alignment tool and roller pilot bearing along with the tob and bolts. I'll need the fmdowels too, so the bolts are a wash probably and I'm going with a hydraulic TOB so that's a wash too it seems.

Ford Performance bolts and dowel kit M-6397-A302

Tilton TOB, 60-6102. Seems like a solid kit. Heard good things about them.

Going with the Tremec TKX with the .68 od mentioned above.

I've already ordered the MTF shifter handle and a custom shifter ball from Carroll Shelby Racing to go with the trans. Been thinking about the MDL or American Powertrain short shifter to go on also. Idk if the stock tremec tkx shifter is any good or not.

Hopefully these parts will be most everything I need for the rest of the transmission swap.

If that wasn't a big enough project....I'm also making a trip up to Detroit to pick up parts from Shaun at StreetorTrack Racing.

I have a full rear 3 link coilover kit to pick up. Plus I'm getting the entire 9" rear axle to go with it, all pull off his 70.

I may decide to rebuild the center chunk before final install. I want a trutrac. Have had them on all my other vehicles. Super nice.

Due to where or how the 3 link brackets are welded up (this suspension was on his personal car, semi prototype) it will probably require side exit exhaust. The brackets are farther outboard on this compared to the normal setups.

I'm super excited to get back and start working on the car again.

Got the transmission ordered! Can't wait to get all these parts in.

Side note, for the shifter, does the transmission come with the bolts to mount the shifter handle on? I know they're like a normal 3/8" thread but I'd like to have the proper bolts to eliminate any potential slop.

No idea on if bolts come with the trans but I'd guess "no". Typically, the bolts go through the trans shifter mounting bar and thread into the shifter. Hurst shifter rods are 3/8-24 thread. I'd do a little internet searching or just call and ask the source of the trans. I think you were going to go with MDL so call them and ask.

I ordered it through Summit. I was going to order it from MDL but there was some reason I didn't, think it was a fee or shipping that was crazy.

I see that MDL and Scott drake offer shoulder bolts. Just wasn't sure if the trans had them or not. My shifter doesn't have threads, just holes.

Edit: took a closer look at the pictures on Holleys site, it does shows hardware to mount the shifter handle.

Got the transmission in! Came in a Sliversport trans box. Figured it would've just had the Tremec box.

Went ahead and mounted the shifter lever, still waiting on my shift ball. Talked to them on Friday and they said mine was coming up in the queue to be made.

Would love to upgrade my mustang with one but that's a dream for now. Need to get the truck done and then the Coupe before I start pouring money into the car again.

Need to coordinate a trip out to Shauns to pick up those parts now that I'm back, too. Might shoot for next week.

I need to get my garage cleaned out, to make room for these parts.

Went to order my trans crossmember from MDL. I have gone back and forth so many times debating on ordering it because the shipping charges always seem crazy. But after looking around for alternative options I decided I'd bite the bullet and just get it from MDL..

While there I figured, why not add the mount and the hardware. I almost fell out of my chair when I clicked on the cart. My cheapest shipping for those three items was $69! I could not believe it, I refreshed everything and it stayed the same. Obviously I wasn't paying that, so I deleted the $8 hardware kit (2 nuts and 2 bolts) and my shipping dropped to $24 from $69.

How does that make any sense. Jeebus
