What a way to start a vacation.

Well we left home yesterday to head to Florida to see Jen's family and her new niece. It's her first niece.

We got to the airport in Milwaukee and it was a ghost town. No lines at all. We were the only people going through security. How nice is that. Alaina usually gets upset waiting in line and putting her toys though the xray. She was great, happy as a clam. Boarded our flight and thought. This is the smoothest start to a vacation we had in ages. Then it went south fast.

On the plane a few rows ahead of us was a young boy maybe about 4ish. Well he was quite upset. Screamed most of the flight and eventually the flight crew made him and his mom move to the very back of the plane.

We arrived on Orlando and headed to baggage claim. Glad to be off the plane. When we got there the mom and that kid were a there too. His name was victor. As we are walking away out the blue Victor runs up to alaina and smacks her across the face as hard as he can. Now she crying and screaming why did that boy hit me? The mom grabbed him, I grab my daughter and comfort her and we walk away before anything else happens. The whole left side of alainas face is bright red and puffy. I was pissed, but didn't know what to do so we just moved on. We are thinking he was autistic or something. So we didn't make a scene. What would you have done.

Now we head off to get our rental car. Standing in line forever, a cute little boy is playimg in front of us. Alaina sees him and hides behind me saying, is that boy going to hit me? Now she's afraid of other kids

The rental cat company tells me there giving us a sentra, then suddenly its gone, and all they have is a Ford escape. Jen gets upset not wanting an suv because of gas mileage. We tend to put a lot of miles on. Last trip to Florida we put 1300 on the car in a week. By now alaina is throwing a tantrum. So we finally just except the escape and head to the garage. Along the way we stop an attendant as we see tons of sedans sitting there and ask about them. He says you want one, I will just change it in the system. Just take this car. A new Ford fusion. Alaina, still in tantrum mode, screaming I don't like this car, I want mommy's jeep. We convince her the car we are getting is the same as my infiniti at home and she settles down.

Finally on the road to jens dads. We arrive at 10pm. Our flight landed at 7. Now alaina goes into I want to go home mode. She doesn't want to sleep here. Normal for her.

Today we get up and jens brother texts us that they are to busy to see us today, so maybe tomorrow. Keep in mind the whole reason we are her is to see their new baby. Ugh.

Spent the morning sitting at my father inlaws house watching the news talk about tornado warnings and storms. I love Florida. Had to laugh though when they told everyone to get out their heavy coats because its getting very cold this weekend. Down to 60. Lol. You warm weather people crack me up. we will be in shorts at the beach in that horrible cold weather.

Sorry. I just needed to vent a bit.
Hopefully the week gets better.

I just hope to get out of Peoria tomorrow morning---I probably would have told the lady to put her animal on a leash if she couldn't handle it.----Why didn't you get a cougar or lynx at the "cat" rental agency?

Sorry to hear the crappy news.

No offense to you personally, but being a person that does not have kids...don't take them if they aren't ready to travel. It just annoys us adults. :hide

Should've bitch slapped the Mom of the little devil child and then said, we're even.

Re: What a way to start a vacation.

No offense taken mark. I completely agree with you. Up until we had her, we were the ones who bitched about screaming kids. Now we tolerate it more. However some just shouldnt travel.

Alaina has never been one of them. She's been on at least 6 round trip flights and never makes a peep. Most people comment they can't believe how good she is on the plane. She likes to fly. She was completely fine until she got hit. Then she was just crabby until we got out of the airport. This is the first time we have really had an issue. I think anyone would be crabby if they got smacked in the face.

That's why I drive everywhere.... Can't deal with airports and other people! We got to Florida Sunday afternoon. Ryan(my 2 year old) made the 1500 mile trip with very little fuss. Yeah, I got a kick out of the tornado warnings too. We were so worried that we decided to go to the Naples Zoo.

Re: What a way to start a vacation.

We talked about driving, but 20+ hours in the car just seems to much for her.

It was a big concern for us but it worked out well. We hit a few McDonalds Playlands to let him stretch his legs and the wife downloaded a few videos and kid apps to her Ipad. He had his fill of the truck by the time we arrived. Planning Disney later this week, we'll see how he feels about the truck on another ride of about 3 and half hours...

Re: What a way to start a vacation.

Alaina is usually good for about 3-4 hours in the car, then its enough. She has a tv for trips. We throw in a movie and she's good.

We are headed to the beach today. Haven't decided on Disney yet. We may take her thurs or Friday. But we didn't specifically come here for that. At least under 3 is free at Disney. She turns 3 next week.

Disney

Again, speaking as a person with no kids. It was always fun watching the families. It definitely was never "The Happiest Place on Earth"

Hey, the times we took our kid and later kids, we managed to behave like the perfect family the whole time. It's amazing how much better behaved and tolerant of one another kids become when they get to go somewhere special like that. At least mine do. Hell, they even got along in the hotel room/rental house at night. All that magic is gone when you get back home though.

Re: What a way to start a vacation.

Disney is not the happiest place on earth for sure. It's all for kids. I went a lot when I was a kid and loved it. Jen and I went after we got married one year, it was hot crowded, over priced and boring for adults. Alaina may be a little young yet. Not sure if its worth the money.

So you still have another year. :part

OK let us say that your vacation is a next month. Alaina is 3 and 3 weeks. So how old are you going to tell them she at the gate? 3 months from now? 9 months from now? At what point do you fess up and say she is over 3? :sarc I am not saying that it is wrong, or that it is right because everyone does it. Just saying.
