So on 02May we headed out on our Trailer Trash Tour of 2025. First stop was Ken's (KB3) house. Freud would have something to say about his trailer. Our trip was the Pacific NW. Olympic National Park to be exact. We headed to Northern California and then west to the coast, then north on Highway 1 to ONP. Headed south then to see Mt.St.Helen's, Crater Lake and home.
Lewiston CA
Gold Beach, OR
Tillamook, OR
Sol Duc Hot Springs, Olympic NP
Mineral, WA
Toutle, WA (Mt.St.Helen's)
Madras, OR
Crater Lake, OR
Dunsmuir, CA
Gold Beach was sunny but cool and very windy. Too early in the season for the Jet boat tours
In Tillamook we got there too late to go on a cheese tour and had a long drive the next day so we missed out.
ONP Ken tried to fit in his 40ft campsite but the entry swing for his pick-up was blocked by a large log. He opted to stay 2 nts in a pull-through but left a day early because it was reserved the last night. So while Ken drove to the next stop my wife and I stayed and went to the hot springs. Ken used his extra day at the next stop at Mineral,WA to visit Mt.Ranier.
We joined up again in Mineral. On to Toutle, WA where we thought we would visit Mt.St.Helen's. No such luck. The highway has had landslides and is out of commission for years. It happened a couple years ago. They built a temp road but that failed and now are just getting bids to fix. Maybe in 2027. Besides the weather was low overcast and rain so viewing was nil.
On to Crater Lake which was a highlight although the road around it is closed until July because of snow. Just a little as you will see. It was overcast so the blueness of the lake didn't show but still a great place. While in the area we walked a few trails to view the Rogue River. Some great rapids and water falls. We do HIGHLY recommend stopping at Beckie's Cafe' on Hwy62 Prospect,OR (on way to CraterLake). It had the BEST pies you ever had. Not filling from a jar but real fruit. and also had the BEST hamburger I have ever had (The Hunter, with a fried egg). We went there twice for pie. Last stop was a Railroad resort that used Cabooses as rooms. We did not stay in them but enjoyed one more night of campfire.
I-phone pics will always be on their side.
