This 71 Custom is cool

You are right about that.
I too made a little mistake and would gone for 16 inch wheels instead of the 17 inch TTII.
But tires are a bit cheaper in 17 inch as in 16 inch overhere.

I saw that car in person, it is well done. I liked it and thought it was cool that they did this on a 71. Usually customizing those just messes them up.

It's featured in the June Hot Rod mag. Not liking it myself. I can appreciate all the work and talent it took to do it but in the end I think it just made it uglier.

I think I know what it is about these creations that turns me off. It might just be one of the reasons I (and others) really like the old metal. Aside from great lines, old cars had CHROME. All the over the top resto-mods delete it all. Shave the drip rails, mold in or body color the bumpers, install flush door handles (or remove altogether), etc. I don't get it.

I think that's the ricer movement with it serious lack of style they have adopted the motto that chrome won't get you home. I hear it all the time from my brothers friends. A sad bunch whose parents have way too much money.

Sadly, you may be onto something.

My 67 coupe only had the rocker panel molding from the factory. One of the things that I like so much about the Vintage Burgundy color is how much chrome really stands out. Adding the chrome to the wheel wells and trunk lid was something that had to be done, and I could stare at it for hours thinking how cool that looked. (This was when I was 17.)

But yes I agree with you our old cars need the chrome.
