T5 bellhousing mod question

I'm preparing my T5 bellhousing for the spacer block installation and I ran across the following issue:

index.php

The top edge of the ruler is centered on the pivot ball boss and is parallel to the marks I made marking the edge of the clutch fork opening, and is also centered in the center hole. This places the ruler slightly left of the center of the clutch fork opening. Should I not use this measurement when placing the spacer block? Placing it centered in the opening, as the instructions advise, would appear to place it off a bit to the right (about 1/8 to 3/16").

It's been a pretty long time, but I know I didn't think nearly that hard about it. I think I used the old bell and just tried to put it as close as I could in the new bell. I remember being more concerned that the material on the new bell seemed a lot thinner than on the old. I think I still have the converted fox bell around, I'll try to find it and see if that helps. I really don't think it's that critical, though. The lever flops all over the place until the trans is in.

It's been a while for me too but I think if you get it close you will be fine.

The clutch fork is attached to the TO bearing, which is the important connection. Where the clutch fork rests on the pivot point is not too terribly important. As long as the clutch fork doesn't hit the bell housing you are fine.

Franky,
I found some pics in my gallery. I think it shows you that the spacer block is not centered perfectly in the clutch fork opening. Scroll down and look
for "T5 Bell 2" thru 5 pics.

If the above link wont work then just go to gallery and look for my collection. Under Shag you will find a sub category called "engine/drivetrain""

Thanks, Craig. Your #5 picture seems to show exactly what I found, if those lines are marking the edge of the opening.

Frank,
Going through my tons of Mustang parts I found some metric guide bolts (bolts with heads cut off) which reminded me that I believe the holes in the bellhousing that you bolt the tranny to are metric threads. If my memory is correct, you might want to borrow these guide bolts assuming you are going to fasten the bellhousing to the motor and then tranny to housing.

No matter what I'll let you know what threads they are for you will probably have the same issue. I also believe not all 4 bolts are of the same length.

Yes , the bolts are metric !!

Thanks, Craig. I'd love to borrow your guide bolts. I thought I saved the junkyard tranny to bellhousing bolts, I'll have to see if I can find them. Otherwise, maybe I'll get them at OSH. If you find out the size, I'd love to know.

I do have the size. Totally forgot tonight. Will do it tomorrow. Too many beers and hot women. Too little time.
