Second guessing my plan

My plan was a restomod looking mustang in gunmetal silver color and black (or maybe ghost) stripes. Basically, a '66 version of tarafied's mustang but a different color. I like the gunmetal color, but there are so many silver/gray cars out there, and in some sick twisted way I want to go Gert's original color (dark metallic green with parchment/gold interior). :roul UGH!!!

Kat, Even if there is a lot of silver or gun metal colored cars out there, that shouldn't matter if it's the color you want. You want to be proud of whatever color you give the car so don't be in a hurry to decide. Maybe you could consider another color with stripes. How about the original dark green with white stripes?

Cough! Nuttin wrong with Green with Parchment interior either Cough!

Dark Green w/white... :confu That would look cool. But would it look 'right' on a mustang with a huge cowl hood? With black interior as well. :shrug

I do see where your concern is because of the big hood which almost forces you to go with a very mod type of color scheme, which now brings up the question as to how important is that hood to you to allow it to steer you? Don't mean to get you all crazy like, for you're already there, but just need to make sure you consider all options.

I like the hood. It's not something everyone around here has on their classic mustang. Makes mine more 'unique', but also looks like it belongs on a Chevy. :skul It also allows me to put a larger air filter. I don't know. I like it, but it wouldn't kill me to down size it.

Color would look fine...hood or not. Black goes with everything. I thought all women knew that.

Instead of stripes, maybe a two tone with the color change along the top of the fenders. This is the style I suggest...pick your own colors.

I like the grey and orange combo here but would use a brighter orange.

Personally, it wouldn't have changed my mind on S-B if everyone around here already had it. I liked the color and it being the original color was a plus. Put the two together and it was the color for me. Damned to what others think/thought. I built my car exactly as I wanted.

Kate
Don't make any decisions rapidly.
I have thinking about color combo's for a few months before I did make a decision.Never regret it.
Go through alot of color combo before you decide.
If you don't have a good feeling about it , don't choose it.

Maybe a Trans Am colorscheme ?
Super Snake design?
Dark green with gold stripes?
Orange with black satin hood ?
Acapulco Blue with black stripes ?
ect
ect

Well, Kat, while you are in the body work stage don't be in a hurry to choose a color.

Your car is a "C" code IIRC and the original color doesn't really matter. My 67 is dark black cherry pearl from a 2000 dodge. the original color was white with blue interior. It now sports black interior.

You need to do what feels right for you. My wife wanted black cherry on her car, I want either light blue or vista blue on my car. As for any graphics or stripes, I will decide that when I get there since I am not sure what exactly to do.

As for your hood, I am not a fan of the cowl hoods, but if you like it it will look just fine in either color scheme you choose. I think despite the fact that there are a lot of gunmetal cars around, yours will likely still stand out. If not then you make the graphics help with making the car stand out.

So there you have my opinion!

Basically do what you want!

Kat, get an image/idea of what you really want then stick with it. If you start changing your mind afterwards, I'd almost guarantee you'll look back later and say "I wish I would have gone with my original plan". I can't tell you how many times so far I've run against the wall with something, gotten frustrated and started having a change of plans enter my mind. My project has almost become a Trans Am clone numerous times now! Lots easier to do, but when the truth is told, cool looking? yes! But not what I really wanted or my car. It can indeed be hard to stick with a plan, but I think you'll be happier in the end.

Like Ponyman said. If you have a plan and nothing knocks your socks off, stick to it. You're a long way from paint so don't fret too much about it. While I'm not big on the cowl, it's your car. The cowl gives it the straigh line racer look. Work it. The two toned like Pete put up, nice example. Do the top half black oand the charcoal/gunmetal underneath the seams. Whatever, just take your time and stick to what you like.

This is what I wanted Gert to look like...but with my current huge cowl.

+1 :thu

My buddy's shop recently finished up a '66 that is the dark grey color with black ghost stripes. It looks pretty nice but it does not have the mods and is made to appear as stock as possible minus the paint and the mag 500 rims.

Who cares what "everyone else" has. There are a ton of red cars out there but when I repainted mine I went back with the red. Mine was originally some shade of green and no way I was changing back to that. Nothing personal, I've just never cared for the factory green...my grand mother had a green Maverick years ago and I didn't care for the color then and still don't.

That said, color is a personal choice so pick what you want....

My original plan with the TA was to paint it a different color but you see too many black ones with the gold bird so I am going to stick with the white with the black on the bottom and silver graphics on that one. I've had too many people tell me it's an unusual color scheme that they have rarely seen so I am going to run with that, LOL! Honestly though, I didn't like the white at first but now it's growing on me and I've kind of gotten attached to it. Going to be a long time till I get the coin to paint that one though....

I will say that to me, the big scoop hood is crying to be a satin black as shown above in the orange #66 pic.
