Ready to fire the new engine....

My oldest son is coming back from college next weekend and wants to be there when I fire the new engine in the Mach... I spent the last weekend tying up little things in preparation; the only things left are:

1) connect the battery
2) add gasoline
3) prime the oil pump
4) install the distributor and set rough timing
5) Fire it up...

It was sooooo hard to stop and wait until he gets here!

I'll try to get a video clip of the first start... but I expect we will be very busy once it fires adding fluids, checking for leaks, setting timing, adjusting the carb, etc. It is a bit overwhelming when everything is new - power steering, transmission, carb, cooling system, etc.!

Wish us luck,
-Rory

P.S. Why is it that you can "fix" the wrong source of a leak multiple times before you find the true cause? The most frustrating part of last weekend was "fixing" a leak from the lower radiator hose at the pump which actually turned out to be from the heater hose above it!

Good luck on the lighting!

Get a tri-pod and just turn the camcorder on and forget about it. You'll get all the smiles and sounds without messing with the camera. Besides, you'll be able to go back and watch the whole thing later on.

I did this with my initial start up and I LMAO everytime I go back and watch it. While I'm normally a dorky goof most of the time, I was really wound up that day :lol

I am anxious to see the vid.
Like Mark said , put it on a tri pod and forget about it.

Remember break-in procedure. Oh yeah, go ahead and tie the battery down also.

:) Roller cam!

I'm not worried about the battery; but I will have a fire extinguisher handy...

Congrats on getting ready to start the engine. I keep wanting to take video of my engine but I run into little leaks and problems that end up distracting me. Post a video of yours if you get a chance.

Why would you want to fire that engine and put it out on unemployment, where the rest of us have to help support it? It has a family and a crippled small child to support...

Now that I think of it, if I really want to fire the engine, (as opposed to say firing it up), why should I bother with a fire extinguisher? :craz
