rack and pinions

I am considering a rack and pinion, what is everyone's experience? Please list type, cost, headers, and mods if any. Thanks.

Well I sell a steering kit so this might sound a little one sided so bear with me my std kit is $895.00 that is all hardware brackets/rack/power steering hose’s/tie rod ends/tie rods and for $1495.00 my deluxe kit comes with all that plus a tilt ididit column http://www.aeroform.com/steeringsuspension.aspx now one of the things the kit is great for is no cutting or welding of any kind when using a ididit column if you don’t use the ididit column you have to cut off the end of your column insert a spacer bearing to center it mostly you just have to shorten the column to allow for the movement of the steering knuckles and the best thing I like about or kit besides price is the adjustable bump steer to keep your car from darting around at speed a lot of high dollar kits don’t even address this issue. If you have any other questions just call me Brian at 816-241-9711 and I will answer all question or kits clear many different headers and I will be more then happy to go through them with you

Brian,
Any links to install articles or anything like that? Pictures are worth 1000 words! Thanks for your input on this.

Aeroform -- what PS pump does your kit use? I'm looking at converting mine over...getting tired of the armstrong steering!!!

Aeroform, That sounds like a great product. I prefer not to pay the high price but I want something that's going to work. What the other guys are asking you can almost get a who Mustang II front end with R/P. I went to your website and did not see any R/P setup for a 69 mustang. Do you have one for a 69?? Thanks.

The 69 should be on the web site bye friday just put it on a 69 428 cobra jet car worked great there is a slight loss in turning radius from the stock, but most of our customers have told us it is an insignificant amount.

My rack

HI! This is my Flaming river setup. It's power steering, and uses a pump that comes with the kit. I also bought the FR steering column(tilt wheel). Flaming river kind of gets a bad rap, their service department is very good and if something is wrong, they take care of it. A problem I ran into with hedders, I had to use long tube hedders made specifically for this rack. Which was ok cause i wanted hedders long tube.

You can tell in the photo as how the rack is held in place, and there's a heim joint to connect up to the steering column. I did have to shorten my steering column, which was just another little challege, but worked out ok. I bought the steel braided lines, and I think I would have been perfectly happy with the regular lines.
right now I do have lead a my reservoir tank but just haven't tackled it yet.

Hopefully I will have the motor running shortly to see how the rack works, then I can tell more about it.
I think I may have close to 2k into it. I can't imagine having installed it with the motor in place!! Also a standard rack may be just as much fun without the hassle of dealing with the power issues.

I have a Total Control Manual rack installed in a '66 Fastback with 289 and headers and standard steering column ... I give it an A+ for install...I give it a A+ for how it looks... I give it a C+ for driveability..

I think the Spindles are hitting on it reducing the turning ratio and it feels like it has some play in it.. I have considered going to a Flaming River steering box with a quick steer kit...
