Pulled My Motor/Trans - Pics

Of The Morons
Yesterday, SAC69 and I pulled the motor and trans out of my 65. Pretty uneventful with no mishaps. The legs of the engine lift would not clear the LCA's, so we had to elevate the front end a little. Next, I'm going to finish up on the tear down and start cleaning.

Pistons look OK, but major blockage in some H20 passages

Del - By the looks of the piston tops you have a 64 "D" code motor in your car. Your car start life as a 64 1/2? Regardless, looks like a good time.

If that's the case, how does that affect the upcoming T5 upgrade? Is it possible with the 5 bolt block?

edit: According to Bob Mannel's book, that type of piston was used until about 5/1/65.

It's a 6-bolt block.
 
Those were not the pistons I was expecting to see. Build date was Sep 1964 and there are leftover 64 1/2 parts on the car like the hood, headlight buckets, and fan motor. Early-type pistons make sense.

I hope no issues with the T5 swap, I'll let you know.

These kind of things make the early cars interesting. I forget when the 6 bolt block went into production, but I'd think you could still do the swap with the plate that bolts to the factory bellhousing, either 5 or 6 bolt. It's been a long time since I had a 5 bolt belhousing, but from what I can see from your photos, it looks like you have the 6 bolt. But don't quote me on that - my memory is faded by alcohol.

What you going to do to the motor? Cam/heads/stroker?

Always thought you had a great stance and wheel tire combo. Car looks great, good luck!
 
Well, SAC69 said it's a 6-bolt block. I'm not sure, but didn't the early 5-bolt bellhousing have a narrower bolt pattern for the transmission?

I thought I read somewhere about someone who had gone to the expense of having his engine rebuilt, then found out it was the early block and not compatible with the tranny he wanted to use.

Since I used my dual-purpose 'Fabulous Fords Forever' prayer rug as a fender cover that day, the knee pads permitted me to pray injury-free. Can you see my turban protecting the radiator support.
