Opinions trans cooler mount

If there's one thing I know, everyone on SF has opinions. Let's hear them on which way I should mount my trans cooler.

Level with the frame rail and inset from the cooler cutout in the valence (there will be a bracket covering the holes):

Or facing forward into the opening:

I have no opinion on where to mount your cooler.

I do like the cutout and wait to see the finished product since I could save some money doing that over the R front end.

I have to say it looks good.

Thanks guys,

Mel, it was done by our very own SellersRodShop Steve. I went to his shop with a repop $32 valence and asked 'what's the best way to cut out the license plate area and put in a surround for a small trans opening? Steve took his cutting wheel and buzzed away, used a USPS shipping box to make a template and cut a piece to match from some scrap metal he had and tac welded it in place. Steve then said 'like that?' all in about 45 min. while we bs'd. I was only expecting to get some instructions, he's fast and skilled.

One tip is you might want to tilt it up to meet the bottom ridge of the frame, as you can see mine comes in 1-2" below since it's flat. Now I see why all the ones I see are sloped. But I like it now. I wasn't crazy about the fiberglass ones or their cost, that's what caused me to ask Steve what to do to this repop. I much prefer the metal and it fit fine for a repop. I did a horrible job with the bondo filler at the seam but Steve will be painting the whole car this year anyway.

Just realized I better test fit the grill surround to make sure the rock guard doesn't interfere.

That's what I'm thinking Joey, I know we looked at it quickly when you were helping me and thought the 1st was better but after mocking it up again and seeing how far back and high it looks on top of the frame rail vs. forward of it. Once the bumper/grill work/ stone guard are on I think it'll be a lot less forward or protruding looking. I mounted it forward and am going to do a test fit of the grill/stone guard today and post a pic. Good thing is only maybe 1/2" of the bottom fins overlap the frame but air can still go through and up.

FWIW , I like the first set up.Transcooler against the radiator.
When you use a fan shroud , the transcooler will benefit from the airflow that occurs when the fan sucks the air through the radiator.
On modern cars those coolers are mounted against the radiator.
My 0.02 opinion

Sorry I'm slacking Joey, half way through the oil change on the DD my daughter asks 'why is the ceiling dripping?' - grab the ladder, back up in the attic. I knocked the drain line loose for the AC unit and the condensation drain was pouring water across the ceiling -AAARRrggghhhh! Luckily she noticed it and I pull the insulation out and dried it quickly.
Here's a couple with the surround, stone guard and repop grill for test fit. Of course the inlets to the cooler land right where 2 of the tabs that screw the lower surround to the grill are. It looks like I'll be able to bend them vertical and they should clear. This repop grill is really thin so it won't be a problem if i have to modify.
