Michael,
You are FINALLY in total "one ness" with the NorCal Stang Fix Black Plate Inner Circle.

Snazzy! Looks like it drove out of a time machine. Well, except for that pesky 2012 sticker.

To enlighten those who are not familiar with California license plate history: Month stickers first came into use in the mid 70's. Prior to that, everyone's registration came due in December. The first month stickers were red on white, so a black plate car would have gotten a red sticker in the mid 70's. Some time in the 80's, CA changed the sticker color to blue on white. As the original red stickers aged and got illegible, they were replaced by the owners with the current blue sticker.

Frank:

You are correct about the month stickers, specifically year round registration conversion commenced in 1976.

A bit of DMV trivia from that era: there were approximately 19,000,000 vehicles registered under the old system (everything had a December 31st expiration) that needed to be integrated into the new year-round system. In its infinite wisdom, DMV devised a conversion process that used an arcane formula to assign new expiration dates for those existing vehicles that resulted in a one time only registration "year" that spanned a period of anywhere between 7 and 18 months, thus, one could have a conversion "year" that lasted as little as 7 months (sometime in July, 1976) or as long as 18 months (sometime in June, 1977) with fees prorated accordingly. Thereafter, the registration "year" returned to 12 months from the date the conversion "year" registration period expired. Note that all "new" registration applications on and after January 1, 1976 were given expiration dates that were 12 months from the date fees first became due (more or less, due to another arcane formula). I remember this crap because I was one of the guys who actually implemented the conversion program for DMV back then and it was traumatic enough that my memory is permanently scarred!!!!!!

Sort of like the new law that took affect 01Jul. Got my registration today that's due Sunday. Seems the new law states you can't register until you get the form or its after the due date. Smart. :shrug

They sent me a renewal for my registration a week after it was due and plus a fee for late renewal which I had removed when they realized they didn't send me my registration prior to experation

Marco, do you just need the red sticker or do you need black plates as well. What month do you need, if I have it I'll send it to you.

This goes for any other CA members who want a red sticker for their black or blue plates.

I also got my renewal, postmarked Jul. 5 and it was due on the 2nd. The little enclosure says we have a 30 day grace period now, so no penalties for me until after Aug. 1.

This goes for any other CA members who needs a red sticker for their black plates to allow them to be in good standing with the BPIC.
