I am fed up with Petronixcrap! I mentioned a while back about the P2 going bad after about 6 years or so and just ordered a P1 to replace it. That lasted all of 1 day. I called Summit Racing and sent it back and they sent a new one. I installed it and danged if it didn't go to crap! I am using the 1.5 ohm coil that I got back in Nov. with the first P1 that went to s*it. It is the correct coil to use. I checked to make sure it was not getting any voltage when the ignition is off so it would not burn up like the P1 is known for doing. WTF is going on here. I am using a full 12v to the ignition (no resistor wire). I am going to order http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-850023/?rtype=10 if it will work ok with the '90 5.0 HO. It says a hardened steel drive gear so I assume it will work with the roller cam? What say ya'll? Thanks, Gary.

HEI should work well, it is a good reliable system. However 18* advance is low. With 10* initial, you'd be at 28* total, and most SBF builds like 34-36* total (without vac advacnce). I'd check to see if it can be adjusted to higher advance.

thats the one i was looking at for the gt40-p motor going in the triumph. have loved the simplicity of the HEI setups on my chevys. the ones i have with the HEI & a one wire alternator cuts the engine wiring down to nothing....

I did put one on the '56 cheby pickup 350 and it is virtually trouble free. Of course I did have to change the cam/lifters after my youngest boy had it down in Mobile for school/work last year. He changed the oil and did not add the bottle of zinc. It started running rough and I knew that is what is was. Several lobes were completely gone. ughhh. I do hate having to climb in the engine bay to install the dist. in a dang cheby...lol Still freaks me out that there is no cam plate to bolt in the cam on a cheby, just the dist. gear holds it in place :wtf

On a flat tappet cam, the angle of the lobes / lifters holds the cam in place - ie, it pulls the cam back. When you change to a roller cam on a chevy, you have to add a plate / bearing or what they call a cam button, which holds it in place. Dist will not hold the cam.
