Mustang I can't buy...but if I could...

OK, so, I am not in a position to be buying another toy...I have two in the garage that I don't have the time and money to devote to, and my wife has said no more toy cars until we get a better garage situation

BUT, just for argument's sake...assuming the rust situation on this car is managable, is that a decent price? I'd definitely be buying it as a beater/driver, not a show car. Just to have a mustang I can actually drive instead of just sitting in the driver's seat making vroom-vroom noises. But I'm not sure what 69 coupes in driver state go for.

If my daughter wasn't less than a year from needing a set of wheels I might consider it, but if I got it, then when she got her car we'd have 6 cars around here. That's ridiculous.

But still, would this one be worth trying to snatch up?

Oh and yeah, I hate the caddy seats in it.

Find me a half-decent driver Sportsroof for 6500 and we'll talk. ;)
You know I was kiddin' right Steve ??

If he is asking $6,500 that to me means he will take a lot less. Low ball him and see where it goes,

LOL, I must be the worst ball buster in the world.

Anytime anyone busts, and I bust back, I always get "you know I was jokin', right?"

LOL, yeah, I know. Sorry if I sounded dismissive.

i could have got you this one for $5000 last year..... no, it's not mine but is identical except for the factory a/c that mine doesn't have.

That one Steve showed is not typical. That would be a steel. I think a decent coupe is easily worth $6500. I hope mine is worth a lot more than that!

Thanks for keeping us on the up and up. Been looking for one for years.

Craig, your car is a top-notch car. I'm pretty sure it'll bring a lot more than 6500!

So I guess my question to the crowd of assembled experts is:

Is this coupe I'm linking to the sort of deal that one should jump at, or is it extremely typical? It seems from the link Jake posted, it's probably typical.

I really would like a 1969 in a few years, now is just not the time. I just want to know the cars will still be there when I'm ready to jump...understanding that there are fewer and fewer classic mustangs on the road each year, so I can't wait TOO long.

IMO, it's not a deal to jump at. It's not a bad price at all, if it has very minimal rust issues, but better deals can be had.

I agree with Mike, I think it's a nice looking car and probably a decent price but I think you will be able to come across another one later. The 65/66's were the hot ticket when I was younger and I always had 67/68's. Now it seams you can't buy a rusted shell of a 67/68 for $6500. But the 69/70's aren't far behind. If your okay with a coupe they will always be less money (don't tell the Fastback guys I said that).

I'm not racist at all against the various body styles. I love 'em all. Hopefully, the 69 coupes won't have gone way up in price when I'm ready to buy.

Thanks guys for your opinions.

Steve, what's left to do on your car? If you put even $5K into it, wouldn't it be driver condition? Your engine is running. If you farmed out something that's holding you up it would be worth it. Even to get it in primer if it's paint/bodwork you're holding on.

I know I'm one to talk with mine still not running after ~3yrs., all my stuff is nitpicky things like rewiring the firewall forward that is slowing me down. I'm just glad I had a shop do my engine or it would still be in pieces.

LOL my mustang is further away from driving than it was a year ago...I'm going the wrong way!

But that's a great point. 6500 would be more than enough to get her back down on the ground...the big problem with it is the time it takes, and I'm really kinda unwilling to pay anyone to do this car...It's a "she's my baby" sorta thing...which I know is ridiculous, but what're ya gonna do?

But yeah, good point...if I'm putting money into any mustang, it needs to be mine. Having a new one would motivate me less to work on the 66, anyway, which is not a good plan.

Exactly, anytime I take on another project or something 'fresh' my previous one gets bumped down a notch. Even just buying the wife her newer mustang slowed my progress because I HAD a mustang to drive anyday (that I could sneak away in it). It did culminate one day in the wife saying 'quit driving my car!' as I'd sneak away in the morning to get coffee in it before she got up...

Focus man, focus.
What have you done now Steve? I haven't seen any updates but haven't checked your build thread either. The engine is still in and running right? floors are in right? suspensions done?

How am I going to stomp you WWF style at Barber Motorsports opentrack if you're cars not together? :char

Old car prices are down, due to the economy. If you look around you can find a fastback for a reasonable price.
