Hey guys, Looking for an Original air cleaner for my dad's 1968 289. Car has been in the family since 72. My grandfather bought it back in 72. Dad has owned it twice the last time in 92 when my grandfather passed. Dad had it restored, paint & chrome etc in 2002. We have most of the original air cleaner but evidently granddad wanted alittle more air flow and cut the sides out of the base. Have the top and connecting parts just no base(well I have whats left of it) Anyone know of one? Thanks in advance.

Dan in East tn...

I've still got my '67 air cleaner sitting in my mom's garage. Not sure if they're the same, though.

It may be this weekend before I can get a picture. Car is at my house but the air cleaner is at dads. I'll take some pictures though. Not sure if the 67 will work. Maybe someone else can chime in who may know. Thanks...

I think this is the right one. 50 bux plus actual shipping. It's in great condition and the flapper works. It will need a bead blast and new paint to be in like new condition. You may want to check on a heat riser if your going concours. Also it has a regular screw where one of the hex heads supposed to be and that will need to be changed. The nuts are both there. PM if your interested.

Thanks, That's what we need. I'll let you know. He had a lead on just the bottom piece (1st & 3rd pic of yours) from a guy here in town. You're not that far from us either. I'm off tomorrow should find out something...
Thanks again,
dan

Re: Looking for Original air cleaner for my dad's 1968 289 (update pic inside)

Well right after I talked to you guys we found the piece (base of the air cleaner) we were looking for at alittle shop not 10 miles from the house. $20....I nearly ripped his arm off...Took all the parts and bead blasted them, primered and painted. Added decals...Used Dupli-color 1606. Flash on the camera makes the ones with the decals look somewhat lighter than it actually is...Wing nut has been ordered and on the way for the lid btw...

Need to do some more cleanup around the valve covers and intake but it looks alot better than it did...

Pretty tickled to have found the base and that grand dad had kept all the pieces except the one he cut up....
Researched where to put the Autolite decal but located a 11,800 mile unmolested coupe and this is where it was on that car... So went with that....

Here's a few pic's...The one's without the decal are outside no flash....

The last pic is where the little pony has resided lately...in my garage with some bowtie's...dad doesn't mind he knows it's well taken care of...
