Is my clutch assist spring missing?

I went to look for my clutch assist spring to remove it and it seems to not be there! See the circled parts in the following picture:

Is this where it's supposed to be installed?

Yeah, I think that's it. I had one on a pedal assy I used in my Coupe. The dang thing nearly broke my hand when it was still attached and the pedal "sprung"

You would easily see it if it was there. See an old post if mine that was my biggest mustang injury when it snapped shut on my thumb. Left a big crack in my thumb nail. Hurt so bad I could have puked.

Definitely missing, but could be a good thing. Didn't you just do a 5sp swap? What kind of clutch did you use, diaphragm or long (3-finger) style? Most diaphragm clutches won't need the clutch assist spring, and in fact won't feel right with it in.

Diaphragm style - that's why I was looking for the spring, so I could remove it. Sounds like I'm glad I don't have to. :thu

I'm running a three finger clutch with the hydraulic throwout bearing, and I don't miss it at all. When I installed the throwout bearing I didn't remove it immediately, and when I got around to removed it all I could thing of was why I didn't do that sooner. The pedal is sooooo much nicer without it in there.

I don't remember seeing the spring on any of my manual cars all the way back to the 80s. Two of them were stock, one 3 spd and one 4 spd 66 coupes.

Must be one of those parts when they break few people know and never replace them.
