How many times a day does some one tell you "Cool Mustang"?

I've decided to start a thread. I've owned cool classic cars before, but I've never gotten this kind of response from people on the street. Is it because it's a convertible?

So - Iam going to keep track here, and lets watch the count. I'll update this daily for the next 30 days. Feel free to start you own count on this thread. :pbj

I know that wasn't the reply you wanted but I couldn't help myself. My Dad always said it's better to be a smart A$$ than a dumb A$$.

I get people looking at it all the time. Some of them ask when am I going to fix it up, some ask about buying it. One thing I have noticed. I park it way out back in most of the parking lots and walk a good distance to the front door. A lot of the time when I come out of the store, another classic of some kind is parked by it.

I think the most unique comment I have ever received was from a kid at my first car show of the year this past Saturday. He said, "your car is beautiful. It is like God sent it down directly from the heavens.".

It almost made me blush.....

I drove it yesterday for about 5 miles and had about 8 comments or gestures. That was just before I sprung a leak in a heater hose. Good thing I was close to home. Now if God could come on down and fix this thing he sent to me I would be happy.

Last month when I entered the Mustang in a car show, a nice women and her 3 year old son where admiring the car. I said to them, "Go ahead, get in, you won't break it" The look of joy on the kids face was great. Some time people at these show are so stuck up about the cars, I think she was surprised at my response. - Mark

I do that. Well I did when Gert was still on the road. I didn't care. :shrug Of course Gert had no interior.. bare floor pans...dents and dings, but she still got some OOh's and Ahhh's. :thu There is this one girl, about 14 or 15 who shows up at the weekly meet and she ADORES mustangs. Especially my coupe. She always talks about how she wants one that looks exactly like mine. Every week, she'd come out with her parents (who have an old camaro) and would just sit in Gert the entire time....about 2hrs. lol She has been very disappointed because she can't sit in a mustang and keeps asking when I'll be driving it again.

As for 'cool car' comments.. not really. I got a few looks, few head nods.. mostly I heard 'sounds awesome!" which I guess is the nice way of saying 'your car looks like crap but at least it sounds good'. LOL

I have some other modern exotic cars, and nobody says a thing or even makes eye contact when I drive them...

But when I drive my 69 Mach 1, every time I fill it up at least one person comes over to talk, and at every stop light I usually get at least a thumbs up or nod if not a conversation (side windows not installed yet).

These were extremely popular cars that many people connected with - they were not out of reach to the majority of people.

Of course most of the stories related are clearly impossible (or highly unlikely): I had a 68 just like that (even though mine is a 69 and not painted a vintage color), and everybody seemed to have a Boss...

I get a compliment or a 'thumbs up' fairly often, even for a common coupe.

Most unique encounter was a few years ago. SacBill had car trouble in a bad part of San Fernando CA, and I was helping chase down parts. While parked in the lot of a mom-pop auto parts store, 2 homeless guys came up to me. I thought they were going to ask for some money but instead one guy asked if my car was a 65 or a 66? We talked for a few minutes while they complimented the car. Unreal.

While at a cruise in downtown Modesto, an older woman ran into slow-moving traffic consisting of all types of classics, and up to my window. She said, "you have my car!". She said that back in the 70's she had a car just like mine. Dark blue GT coupe. She was all smiles.

I think it depends, if the car is sitting still I get the thumbs up, if I am driving it I get the middle finger.

All I ever get is "how many miles on this engine?"

Really?

I would have thought "Hey, are you trying to follow that PT Cruiser?" :roll

You'll hear it from me. 64/65 Falcon--best classic body style ever. I want my Falcon back.
I love those falcons to I'd love to build a sleeper falcon

I get thumbs up in the coupe often but I can't believe the excitement that happens when I'm test driving the car I'm building for my wife, 66 Sunbeam, I need to update the pic, new wheels etc. supposed to be sunny tomorrow.

Aside from the thumbs up I think one of the best compliments is when folks pull out their cell phones to record you driving by.

The best was a young girl who came running over, dragging her dad, to tell me she had painted her room the same color... I asked her "why?"...
