I was in Hanibal Missouri a week ago Wednesday helping my wife and her sister move their mother into a assisted living center, the wife was in her moms new escape and I was several car lenghts back following. We came to a intersection in town and the light turned yellow before I got there and I hesitated and went on---FLASH--- I thought I made the intersection before it went red--not--I must have just touched the line when it changed---the pictures are pretty clear---$130. fine---doesn't go toward my license nor is there any insurance company notification--if not paid by due date a warrant for arrest is issued. I would like to include a nasty letter with my check but I better not---I might get pulled over there and a large officer saunder up to my window and say"YOU IN A HEAP OF TROUBLE BOY"

My thoughts on this type of story is....did you do it? Yes. Then that's it. You played the game and got caught. Pay up. I hate light cameras too. Always think they'll miss-fire. But you ran a yellow/red and earned the ticket.

I got my speeding ticket in Nevada a couple years back. Didn't get mad about it. I played and lost that was it. $700+ later I know it was still my fault.

I got one for "entering intersection on red" well yea duh I was turning right! Yea sure I didn't come to a complete stop but that's not what the ticket says. Just says I was in intersection. (legal) I don't know I I should fight that or take traffic school. The light turned red right as my tire went over the line too. Rigged I tell ya!

I don't think I ever denied it, I honestly thought I hit the line before it turned red (I was told at a traffic school by a Il. state trooper that it is not illegal to start through on yellow), he said if it was you could not safely ever go through a green light---what if it hit yellow right as you hit the line---ticket---I was just whining about getting caught---I am sure my out of state plates was a factor---also I bet I don't whine as much as the policemen they lay off someday because of the use of automation.

FYI, double check to make sure you were issued an actual ticket with something like a 'Notice to Appear' with a court date on it and not a 'Snitch Ticket." Lots of info on the net about this.

Out here I got popped by a red light camera and received a snitch ticket. It looks like a real ticket, but I was asked to fill out a form including the driver's info so they could mail me a real ticket. I never did anything about it and it went away.

This should wind up in the political board....lol
We've had a few investigations here in CA that the companies that manage/manufacture the cameras had been timing them just ever so slightly off so that they would issue just a few more tickets. They get most of the money from the ticket fee and the cities get virtually nothing. There were quite a few here in LA and because most judges were not enforcing the tickets and the cities were not making much if anything on them, they started to remove them. They even put the removal of several in Anaheim to a public vote and they got removed.
I hate them too. I havent gotten a ticket from one but....As you said, you thought you were across the line...but maybe you weren't as "close" as you thought. The thing about those tickets is that the burden of proof is on you and they have a pic. I'd pay it and move on. If they allow traffic school so you don't get points on your driving record, then do it.
I personally think they are just revenue generators for the manufacturer and not a significant bump in public safety. (or for that matter, they aren't even a good source of revenue for cash strapped cities)

I think there also some rule as to when it's ok to continue through a yellow light, as it turns red. Something to do with where your wheels are at the time of the red light. :confu I can't remember exactly. My husband got pulled over up in NC once for going through a yellow and it turned red.

I call it state sponsored extortion!!!!!!!!!!!!! :soapboxrant

My complaint with the camera enforcement of traffic rules is that some pinhead at some local collection agency considers you guilty before there has been an adjudication of the facts and then freely threaten to withhold your vehicle registration if you fail to reply with money. In my case I got a letter from a toll authority in Orange County (400+ miles from me) claiming that I blew through a Fast Pass toll booth on some toll road I never heard of, let alone driven on, in their jurisdiction. Since my car was home in a locked garage and I was two states away when this is alleged to have occurred I called their bluff. I wrote them with a demand for a legible copy of the photo of my license plate on the car that purportedly blew the toll booth. I'm thinking if my license plate is on anything other than my car they screwed up and if it is my car, I want to see the face of the person who stole my car and drove it more than 800 miles and returned it to my locked garage. I get a form letter reply saying that due to a keyboarding (typing) error, my license plate was erroneously listed on the notice and I could disregard the original notice. So, on the basis of some minimum wage typist who doesn't proof their work, I am considered a violator and they stand ready and willing to screw with me under color of authority unless I pay up now. Another attempt to chip away at my civil rights.

I like what Rick (fast68back) said. When he gets a ticket in the mail with a picture of his car, he sends them a picture of himself writing a check.
