Going to be a painful weekend

Yesterday on my way to work I noticed my '03 GT (the one I just got last month) started overheating... again. I just changed the stupid water pump a few weeks ago! Well I got to work, waited for it to cool off. Checked oil. Nice clean, not white or anything. Hmm ok check the coolant/water... bone :censored'ing dry. :wtf So I fill it up. Start it.. no leaks. No water squirting anywhere. Safe to drive home.

On my way home, stopped at my buddies house and he took a look. Still no visible leaks anywhere. No smoke from the exhaust. Good thing. Closer inspection of the engine and he points out there looks like a gasket located on the bottom of the thermostat housing that appears to be leaking. There was some dried brownish stuff under the housing as well as all over the intake. He said it looks like coolant leaked and dried all over the place. So this weekend I have to figure out how to change/fix that leak problem.....................and then I still have to work on Gertude and see if I can't get her started again. :roul

Not quite sure of the exact year, but I think Ford had a TSB out about it. The 4.6 had a plastic intake that was known to crack around the thermostat housing. :ducking: Might want to look into it, if I remember they came out with one that had s metal housing.

We have a black '02 GT on the lot that had a cracked upper intake that we had to replace. So possibility I suppose. :confu

My 97 T-Bird did exactly that. At least in my case, when it let go, it made a hell of a mess.

I had a '96 Cougar XR7 that split all the way across the front of the intake. Made a big mess and fried the alternator. Ford loved me......

There is a TSB about that exact problem. Aftermarket (Dorman) intakes are updated to prevent future problems in that area.

FYI, newer Fords take GO5 coolant, which is a reddish/orange color. Most parts stores can get it, although you'll have to find a counterperson knowledgeable enough to know what it is and to know how to get it if they don't stock it.

A little KY does wonders for a painful weekend............what? not THAT kind of painful weekend?....er sorry. :roll
