Getting ready to jump back in on the rustang.

It has been 3 years since I did much of any work on my car. In the past three years I rebuilt a house (remodeled an interior after re-roofing it and fixing the water damage/mold/everything) and then moved into it, all while working through the end of the Shuttle program.
I am still working at the center but now I am back to doing work as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic, what I was before the space center came along. The Shuttle caused me a ton of troubles the last couple years because of schedule changes, one week I'd be third shift and the next first. Add in family and life in general and I have had no time for car play. The car has been at my buddy Earl's house for the past few years. I took it there to use his rotisserie and that is where I stopped, once it was on the ground. I was helping him do a bunch of welding and stuff on his fleet of cars. He worked with me at the center but was laid off back in July after Atlantis landed. He started a restoration business and has been doing OK but his house is now 30-40 minutes one way from my house, where we were about 5 apart.

I'm going to bring the car back here for a while to do some work on it and get it ready for paint. Earl is going to do the body work and paint, I was going to but will never get done of I do. He has several projects so my car is way down the road before he would be ready so I have decided to start partial assembly of it (engine/dash/etc.). Now I have to figure out where the hell I put the parts and get a game plan together for getting done. I've been "working" this car since April of 2003 so it is long past time to get it done. I had wanted to finish it in time to take pictures infront of the launch pad with a Shuttle but that won't happen now :(

http://classiccarcreations.net/ is Earl's website if anyone is wonder who this guy is :) He does mostly 55-57 Chevy work but has been working on one of the movie cars from "Christine". He is anal about the work he does so I fee good about having him do the body/paint. I was originally swapping my labor for his but as I said life got in my way. I did learn quite a few things on 57 Chevy cars though.

Anyway, I'll post pics when I get the rustang to it's new home.

Great news! Glad to see you were able to hold onto your job too. You'll have to post some updated pics.

+1 here Newbie !!

We love the pics here .

Glad to know you're still on your feet! You'll get the Mustang on the road sometime or another...remember: it's the journey, not the destination that counts!

Lemondrop,
Welcome to the Fix, BTW. Just remember one very simple rule around here:

:wop

Glad to see you around. Ironically I came across a link last month that I had saved to your page. I checked it to see if you had made any progress through the years, but I had just missed seeing. Finding nothing "new" posted, I actually wondered how you'd been getting along. Now I (we) know, and glad I kept the link! Throw that baby up on the members build journal bro and keep everyone posted!! :thu

On the trailer, down US1, to Chris's house the Rustang goes.

Car is home but sleeping outside tonight. I want to wash it, seems the mud daubers decided the car was a nice place to claim as home so I wan't to wash it before I let them out in the garage.
More pics tomorrow when I get it in the tomb.....err repair bay :)

Chris,

Considering where that car came from, it's almost done!! Glad to see you back in the saddle.

Careful, with the speed you're suddenly working at on the car, you might get done in no time and then what? Believe me, it's a lonely world out there when you don't have a Mustang to work on, so slow down and savor the flavor.
