Flip gas cap for 67-68

So last week while visiting my sister in Ventura we stop by a flea market. While perusing a table my wife spots a flip-gas cap for a 67'8. Looks really good so I buy it.

After I get home I clean it up and it looks to be in better condition than the one I have.
I may get the base rechromed when i get the rear bumper done. Taking them in tomorrow (place was closed over the holiday week)

My cap is the one with the tri-colors painted in.

Nice score Mikey. You need to give the wife a big atta-girl for that one. :thu

I'm guessing a chromer can't rechrome the lid because it has the brushed center. right?

Looks to be one piece with the outer ring part.

I've seen it done on other pieces that had multiple textures. They can somehow mask off the brushed or perhaps they rechrome the entire piece, then recreate the brushed look.

Yeah but it also has the pony and tri-bars, with the pony chromed and the tri-bars painted later of course.

You know, if you spent anywhere near the amount of time on your instrumentation as you are on this silly gas cap, you'd already be done.

OKay but the brushed area is still a problem.

So I took the bumper in. $250
And the base of the cap $75

Should take about 3 weeks they said. Superior Chrome in San Jose is doing the work. He plans on upping the bumper price this year but hasn't done it yet. They only work 4 days a week because of the economy but he said this week he has been deluged with work since he does mostly specialty work on vintage cars.
