My Great Aunt (my Mom's Father's younger sis who's the only one left on that side of my family from that generation) is turning 100 next month and we're planning a bash for her.

Lot's of my Mother's cousins are coming and it's gong to be great, as she has all of her mind in tact (moreso than me in some cases!) and she still lives in an apartment by herself! ?Her grandaughter lives a block away and checks in on her every day.

I am going to make sure we get a mic and have a 'roast' per say with her getting in the last word. She has never witheld any punches and reminds me anyone can be tough!

Has anyone had the blessing to celebrate a relative's or friend's 100th b-day?

That's really cool. 100 years is a big one. I have never had the chance to celebrate one.

Wish her a happy birthday from us.

Never had that honor---sounds like a great time! I asked an elderly lady once from my little town what the biggest thing she has seen and she said she remembers seeing her first car as a big deal---also the way people raise their children now ---she is also sound mind and body---still drives and lives by herself at 97. I hope you also ask your aunt what has made the biggest impact on her.

Never gotten a chance to be at a 100yr celebration either. The closest I cam was with my Great Grandmother (my immigrant ancestor who came here from Sweden!). She made it to 96.

I'm half way there now though..as of today! :roll

It's great that you're part of the celebration!

My Grandmother on Mom's side is still kicking away. She still lives by herself and gets along great. I go see her every year on her b-day. She'll be 94 next April.

Think of all the things that have changed in their lives. Horses to cars, 2 world wars, candles and kerosene to electricity, letters to email, outhouse to indoor plumbing, etc...

I thought I was going to be able to, but my "Granny" passed this year at 96. We really thought she would reach 100 easy, but took a sudden turn downhill and that was that.

Dad's dad went at 94, both Grandmothers are kicking at 90 and 95 so we're trying to pad the odds.

That is so cool! :thu My mother is 85 and she is in excellent health. I like to talk to older fellows like that at the mall while I'm waiting for swmbo to shop or what ever the swmbo's do in those stampedes they call "sale". The older one's have been through so much of our nations history. Great depression/WW2/Korea. I served in the navy '75-'79 and it is always a pleasure to talk to the old military guys about their generations struggles in war and peace.

My Mother, her sister, my wife, son n I went thru a shoebox of old pics (mostly from the 30's n 40's) in 2009 when we visited n I filmed all of it. She remembered all the pics n told us about all of the people in them. That was way cool. My great aunt even corrected my mom n aunt!

Cool for sure. Always like talking to them...so much to learn from them about life.

My Great Grandfather on my Mom's side lived to be 104....passed in '64. We did a family gathering every July 4th on his birthday. Heck of a family get together. Don't see them like that much anymore. We had about 75-100 relatives there every year.
