Drove Murphy This Weekend

We had our annual Regional MCA Show this weekend and I was too tired to haul out my trailer, so I decided to just drive my coupe down there. Well, Murphy lived up to his name by rewarding me with a dead battery when I tried to drive to the office on Friday morning. Had to run out and get a new wheelchair battery and replace it in the Autolite box. At least nothing blew up or otherwise acted up.

The car ran beautifully and it was fun to drive it. It is almost 44 years old now and it's just 79 miles shy of the big 100K. The digits are starting to flip. I'll have to pick a nice drive and get a picture of when it turns over.

Nice, Laurie!
Sounds like besides the battery, you and the old girl had a good time stretching her legs. :thu

I remember you having a problem with Murphy's battery at Knott's approx 4 years ago:
Who came to the rescue? The Nor-Cal members, of course.

But of course! It was after that incident that I used helicoils in the interior posts and it hasn't been a problem since. I think I had to get a new battery about a year after Knott's, so my old one was three years old. That's pretty good considering the heat we have here. It kills batteries.

Laurie, sounds like somebody has been spending way too much time in Mexico lately...lol :steer

Forgot to add, have you thought about adding a trickle charger to help with the battery lasting longer when you are away? Get a good one if you do. I have good luck with them on my Ford tractor and '66 stang.

Mea culpa, I have one but forgot to put it on the battery. It's on there now! LOL

BTW, notice who is handling the tools in the photograph. ;)

It's like a CalTrans job: two people working, one watching, one goofing off.

Same goes for Texas....I rarely have to pay full price for a new battery even on our daily drivers. Usually get some credit back when the batteries don't last as long as they say they should.

I only find time to drive the Trans Am about once a month right now and it's usually good for me to plan ahead and put the charger on it for a while prior to trying to start the car, LOL!

Haven't been driving my Mustang much lately either but never have issues with it's battery even when it sits for two or three weeks....go figure.
