Door window beltline fit

I am going through my first attempts at installing door glass and I do not have another car available to look at for a comparison. I have a 68 vert and I "assumed" that outer beltine should seal aginst the glass with the window fully up. Howerver, it doesn't. When the glass is up, is the bottom of the window frame supposed to be visible and the beltine sealing against it or should it not be visible and the beltline sealing against the glass? I hope you can understand my question.

I understand your question perfectly.

I'm not sure how it's "supposed to be", but every door window that I've adjusted/aligned to fit the door opening always ends with the outer belt-line weatherstrip sealing the top edge of the windows lower frame. Yes, the top edge of the bottom of the windows frame is just barely visible. Not visible when viewed from the side of the car, but visible when viewed from above.

I hope this helps!

I think the top of the window lines up with the top of the vent windows, similar to the photo

Thanks guys,
It looks like I have some more work to do. I seem to have good alignment between the door glass and the vent window, but the door glass needs to be raised at least 3/8" to 1/2" to look like daveSanborn has recommended. Of course the vent window will need to be readjusted. So 'round and 'round we go.
Thanks again.

There are other things to take into consideration than just the relation of the height of the door glass to the belt-line weatherstrip.

Is the door gap between the lower edge of the door and rocker panel within spec.?

Is the door window sealing properly with the roof side rail weatherstrip?

If the door is gapped properly to the car.... and with the door closed the door window is sealing properly with the roof side rail weatherstrip..... and the height/alignment of the door window is good in relation to the vent window..... as long as it doesn't look way out of whack somewhere, live with where the bottom edge of the window is in realation to the belt-line weatherstrip.

Adjusting the door window/vent window frame assembly has taken me as long as an entire day. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's a bear. The key is to have patience and keep making small adjustments until you're satisfied with the fitment.

The door is a low as I can get get it.

I have set the window as high as it will go and still close.

It looks like I will have to live with a leaking beltline weatherstrip. There is still at least a 1/8" gap between the ws and the edge of the window channel.

I have spent 2 days on just the driver's side. Guess I'll just accept what I have and move on to the other side. At least I now know a little about what I am doing.

Thanks for the advice.

All cars leak at the belt line. There are holes in the bottom of the doors to let the water out. Water will get in the door no matter what you do. Just make sure it can get out.

Frameless door glasses suck to adjust. Practice and familiarity go a long way. Keep plugging away and don't get frustrated. Let it take as long as it takes for you to be satisfied with the outcome.

And welcome aboard!
