Dash Pad Trim - updated with pics

Does anyone know where I could purchase the metal trip piece that goes between the dash pad and the windshield of a 65 Coupe. I have looked everywhere and cannot find it.
Thanks

Re: Dash Pad Trim

It's not reproduced.

I called one of the places that has a Mustang bone yard and found mine...CJ Pony I think.

It was kind of pricey (around $80) but they had it and sent it to me blasted and primed. All I had to do was paint it and install it.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

If they don't have one check with Mustang Mania...I've bought used parts off of some of their parts cars in the past but not 100% positive they still have parts cars since they moved to Austin. Haven't checked lately.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

I have a couple local mustang salvage yards that probably has it if you can't find it locally. Keep in mind postage.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

My parts interchange manual says the windshield is the same 65-68, so that trim piece might be too. Looking for three years as opposed to one might help you locate one.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

Just my luck its not produced anymore. I will start looking in salvage yards near me. Thanks for the help.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

There are differences between 65 and 66 trim pieces. I suspect if you find a complete set within one year, it'll be compatible across other years.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

The differences I found in them was the location of the holes for the mounting screws. One set/year has wider set holes I believe. Other than that, I believe they were all the same. Found this problem on one of the last two '66s I had.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

Yes, big difference between 65/66 vs 67/68 regarding hole spacing. Grabbed two sets of 65/66 today.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

Craig, can you elaborate on the differences...maybe pics? I don't need them but I'm just curious what they go for these days.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

I will give more details later after I do some measuring but my first observation is the distance from hole to hole is very different between the 65/66 vs 67/68. Also the location of the hole at the ends (outward ends) is different. Will take some pics later.

Re: Dash Pad Trim

OK, Here's the scoop on 65 thru 68 trim pieces. Per my local Mustang shop 65 & 66 are the same. 67 & 68 are the same. I know the 70 doesn't use one so I assume neither does a 69.

The 65/66 are 28.5" long
The 67/68 are 27.5" long

The extra inch can be seen on the outside ends (closest to the door).

Here's some 65/66's which the hole is 2" from the end:

Here's Shag's trim piece. Note the hole is 1" from the end:

Finally the distance between the holes are also different. Measuring center to center from the center screw hole going outward:

65/66: * 12.5" * 8" * 5.25" *
67/68: * 11" * 7.25" * 7/5" *

Now, can I go back to sleep? Oh and yes tt400, the brown 65/66's are yours. Being shipped today.

Craig: Can you do me (and everyone else) a favor? Check the 65 and 66 versions and see if there is a difference at the area where the two mate together. I remember that the tabs are different between years, but the other measurements are the same. Is this true or false?

And those of you with your minds in the gutter: the two pieces do not mate to make mini-trims; they mate just for the hell of it.

Midfurd,
I've been told by more than one that 65/66 is the same. So how can I check expect to ask someone who might own a 66 to take a pic. Would you know anyone? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! I'll take a pic of an extra set of 65's I have. Since 67 & 68 are the same as the 65's I have, I can't imagine that 66 would be so odd. Then again odd attracts odd. Passenger side overlaps driver's side.

They look the same to me. the first pic is a 66 lowly coupe and the second is a 64 1/2 not quite so low vert.
