Daily driving my 65

guruatbol

Always on vacation!
Well, I got the 65 registered finally. $66 and I have vintage plates on it. It was kinda sad taking off the blue 65 YOM plates, since the car is blue.

Anyway, I drove it to work in St. George yesterday. I have got to add AC to this car for sure!

I did have fun, I drove it the 15 miles to the gas station and ran out of gas just before the driveway to the station, so two good samaritans helped me push it to the pump and I filled the tank. The car performed flawlessly. I am so happy with it, but there are some issues I have to address soon!

1- new springs in rear with some sort of suspension mods to help with the wheel hop.
2- The front is good, but a bit loose. I need to figure something out. I have been wanting to put a MII front suspension in it, but will have to wait til winter.
3- seats! I have got to get the Procar seats I want.
4- head liner with dome light that works when the door opens. I hate to get into a dark car.
5- AC! It is over 105 in St. Georg, only in the 80s here, but I drive down the hill, nuff said!
6- Though it has drum brakes and they work fine, I would feel better if it had a dual MC.
7- fix the misc. rattles
8- repair the wind wing windows.
9- side mirror is a cheap repop and sucks, needs to be replaced soon! The glass keeps popping out.

That is all I can think of right now....

I did come home early this AM (3:00 to be specific) with a huge grin on my face!

Awesome! I'm sure you had tons of looks and thumbs up too while out, eh?

Your list doesn't look too bad. Most of that is just some time in the garage with some tools to fix, well, obviously except for the seats, A/C and the MII suspension. $$ there.

Only when your hand is in front of it? I'm thinking if mine popped out, it would only happen once....before it was in a billion pieces...

Hehehe, the mirror popped out when I adjusted it. It fell out into my hand.

The car is pretty ugly, but I still had people drive up along side to get a good look.

The things that cost big and take time will have to wait until winter when I am driving the truck.

You really expect us to believe that you drove it anywhere when all we see is them parked at the curb......

Congrats on getting another classic as a DD. Both mine are DDs. The wife mini van is in the shop, but when it comes out, I will be adding AC to it.

10 - tighten nut behind the steering wheel.

I'm actually considering doing the same with Red for a good month of driving it daily. It needs to be abused a little.

Found another... right side window regulator binds and I smell raw fuel....gotta check for leaks before bed.

I can't figure out how to shift, steer, and take a video .... so pics are going to be tough.

Have you tried Depends? :no

Maybe at lunch I'll take a pic and post it when I get home Saturday since my next two shifts are 4:30AM start times.

I just checked for leaks around the fuel pump. Found the power steering pump is leaking or the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb at the fuel pump. It doesn't look bad, but I'll have to keep an eye on it.

I have to say it is pretty nice to be able to be going up a steep hill and need to pass and hit the gas in 5th gear and go from 75 to 100 in a few seconds. The car seemed to be pretty stable even at 100 mph.

Your a braver man than I, no way I would be attempting that with a 40+ year old jelly jar under the hood.....not even pulling a trailer to haul my cajones........

Funny,3 years ago I was laying in a hospital bed after suffering a stroke thinking about 4 things before the DRs did their thing with exploding the blood clots in the old brain(It was the one thing I remember before going under).

1 walk again
2 talk
3 play at least one period of pick-up hockey
4 when the car is done drive it as a daily driver from April to the first snowfall

did #1 the next morning when I tried to leave the hospital(They do get pissed when you try to leave the property with the IV equipment still plugged into your arm).Shocked the DRs when they saw me run past the nurses station dragging it.

Did #2 when I told the nurses I was fine and I'd return the equipment after I got home to get my core charge back. Wife had to tell me this as I didn't and still don't remember walking or talking. They showed me the security camera video as proof.

Did #3 against DRs orders. What do they know. I did ok. Funny was trying to skate after putting on weight and feeling like I had an anvil on my chest. Came through it fine. No problem and hung up the skates afterward.

#4 is still on the drawing board. Going to make the car safer by getting rid of the drum brakes and replacing them with disc. Rod and Custom Mustang 2 front end. That should be enough to keep it safe.Would drive it year round except Western NY winters suck as far as snowfalls go.

Oh, it is a fairly new jelly jar....

I kinda have the hot rod out of my system. Besides it seems the local guys in blue are out like flies when I am on the road....There was one watching me fill up last night when I was both filling the company van and my car....two different stations several miles apart.

I do have one issue I have got to fix ASAP.

The heater must get air form the cowl, but for the first time out of about 7-8 vintage Mustangs even back before they were vintage, my heater spews hot air while driving and I am roasting. Fan is off, I have played with the temp and the def bars and it is blowing hot air not very hot air. The fan is off... The PO put in a new unit but didn't put in the duct hoses for the def, so I guess I'll have to do it...In the mean time I have got to get rid of the constant hot air. It is hot in St. George and I am just roasting!

As for making my car safer, I have to get on that this winter. I also need to start stripping the paint and find all the hidden rust and other stuff. I found a leak in the windshield yesterday in a thunder storm and found what may be some rust between the left fender and cowl....Bad signs.

I may be doing a Gertrude repair which would really suck! It would allow me to do something custom with the cowl vent which I have been wanting to do, but didn't want to tear down this car for it. I wanted to do it with a vert....
