CSRP Kelsey Hayes Calipers ?

I won't mention names but a Fellow Stangfixer and I have discussed kelsey hayes calipers over beers and he says that back in the day that they were nothing but a maintenance nightmare. I am courious, has anybody had any maintenance issues, leaks, pistons sticking with the new KH type CSRP calipers when used with Dot 3/4 fluid? I know that they have plated pistons, not stainless pistons like other kits out there. They have been out for a while so it would be good to hear some real world testing and feedback. My 66 is a way from being back on the road but it will either have CSRP granada or Kelsey brakes... I am just undecided on which kit to use. A main reason for going with the KH style kit is the smaller hub diameter as I want to run 15" argent steel rims with chrome acorn lugs ala 65 GT350 and would like to have matching rims front to back... granada fronts would require the later rims which would have too large an opening in the rear over my 8" axle... Thanks...

Why not consider the Stainless Steel Brake Co.'s Kelsey-Hayes brakes? I have them and they are very good.

Scavenge a set of the big Lincoln calipers, they fit in a 15" wheel. Or, you could spend some $$ and buy the complete set from Shaun at Street or Track.

Cost is the biggest factor... $524 for CSRP vs $900+ for the SSBC kits... the only difference being stainless steel pistons...

You can get a 14" wheel to work with the Granada brakes. To make it work, I take the rotor and wheel I want to use to the machine shop and have them turn down the hub on the Granada rotor to fit the wheel. Cost last time was $25 per rotor. If the caliper gets in the way, I don't know of any fix for that.

We sell a lot of the swap 1 kit that has the 4 piston caliper. So far we have no complaints. I plan on putting it in one of our cars here pretty quick.

I'm using some stock KH calipers on Red and have never had any problem even when I rebuilt them with a kit I got from Virginia Mustang.......er at least I think that is who I got it from.

I was going to post that this is an area (brakes) that you don't really want to short-cut for cost, but I never said that, did I?

With that said....more money is not always a better product.....be sure on what you are paying for.

I have the CSRP KH-style setup on my car. I put it on 4 or 5 years ago now and have had zero problems with it. You do want to keep up with fluid flushes (recommended every couple years) and typical brake lube maintenance, but neither are a big deal and should be done anyway. They can be more problematic simply because they have more moving parts, but I think it's worth the maintenance.
