Anyone with a 390 and stock Oil Pressure gauge?

Didn't you post this issue on the FE forum? If location of the sending unit is an issue, I'd expect they would have said something about it.

Looks like you have checked a lot of things. Do you have a stock oil filter adapter? There were different sizes in 67 and 68 the 68 is higher flow.

There are also oils mods you can do to the block to increase flow. They weren't well designed in 67.

Also since the idiot light never really went on you have no idea if you are seeing pressure at the top port. Have you ever had an aftermarket oil pressure gauge installed? I might try that first to ensure you are getting pressure at the port.

Lastly check the ground.

It all came to like you said Justin. The source of the oil pressure is the key. No doubt this location for the idiot light isn't enough.

Surprisingly the FE forums I tried, one there has been no response and the other told me everything I already wrote up back to me but never mentioned a different source for a gauge rather than for and idiot light.

Maybe the clock is going back in. :shrug

Mike:

My car came from the factory with the standard oil pressure gauge which appeared to function correctly. When I switched over to the tach cluster, I swapped out the stock oil pressure sending unit for the idiot light sending unit and reattached the wire....light functions correctly.

If you tested the circuit by grounding the sender wire to the sending unit body and the gauge worked, then your issue is likely a blockage within the oil filter mount. In any event, I have a spare aftermarket mechanical oil pressure guage that I use when breaking in motors that does not use a sending unit, it has a tube that attaches to the sending unit hole on the oil filter housing and directly feeds oil to the mechanical gauge. If you would like to borrow it, shout......
